It’s pretty obvious he has more issues than just getting better players. Sure talent will help any coach look better to some extent but his coaching is very questionable.

He takes forever to make changes to his in game strategy. I get playing man to try and defend the 3 but you have to mix it up. Mix in some zone and match up zone. At least try to get the other teams offense out of rythem. His waits way too long to take TO’s and this just helps opponents extend leads.

Why try to run with an up tempo team like Bama. Twice! Also, I don’t see how he can’t figure out how to manage a pretty good player like Cook. Dude has regressed since his first couple of games and MM’s strategy is to sit him.

Maybe he’s learning on the job and next year will be different but if you couple these coaching flaws with his lack of HS recruiting I don’t see him being here long term.

He does have the pedigree of being the worst Murray State coach in the last 30 years.

I still don't understand how MM was the best option out there with all the coaches you could have hired,oh that's right nice guy and he wins alot of moral victorys. Awesome LSU has the best middle school coach in the sec.

The rumor is that Woody and Buzz Peterson are friends and McMahon played for Buzz in college. Not sure if that’s true but it makes sense being that, as you said, there were plenty of better options out there for the same price.

Good thing we are losing most of our starters and have two commits

The only players who will be out of eligibility are Hannibal, Baker, Wright and Dean. Some of the rest may move on in the portal but not known at this time.

Unless McMahon can pull a bunch of rabbits out of his a$$ in the portal, we will be mired in the bottom of the sec next year.

Exactly, we’re trapped in this no win cycle where it’s always the players fault and McMahon is absolved from recruiting because of some imaginary boundary that’s stopping him. So for the excuse makers he could go on losing forever and it wouldn’t be his fault.

Didn’t Cade Cunningham sign with Ok State in a year that they were actually sanctioned with a post season ban? It’s almost like the post season outlook isn’t the biggest factor for these kids.

Miller is still raw, he is still young and learning his spots. He will need to continue focusing on rebounding and on defense. The flashes are very apparent here, and the patience could be well worth the wait.

Here is the On3 scouting report for Miller. People should look up the impact of freshman bigs to understand that he will not be a significant contributor in year 1. Kwame Evan’s is the top freshman big in the country and he’s averaging 8 and 5.

For us to be successful next year, you can forget about either freshman being a catalyst. He will have to develop and recruit good transfers.

He cant take 5 guys in the high school class of 2025 and sit here and say "oh yeah we're going to build something that'll be good in 3-4 years from today".

This is why I was shocked when they said they had a small board in 2023 and were moving on to 2024 basically the summer before signing day. Best case scenario, it’s going to take at least 2 years for players to start figuring things out at this level. Even if we took a big 2024 class, you would be piecing things together next season anyway. I don’t understand delaying that.

Honestly, mcmahons accomplishments at Murray st. Don’t mean anything at lsu. But what are you basing this on?

Simply put, McMahon has to do the portal way better than he has. We have too many guys who cant play in the SEC on this roster and this roster is entirely his outside of Wilkinson at this point already. He cant take 5 guys in the high school class of 2025 and sit here and say "oh yeah we're going to build something that'll be good in 3-4 years from today".

Yeah, I'm not as down on CMM as some here but we can't just absolve him of any and all of the issues we are seeing now. I mean to have our 6-0 backup point guard as our best rebounder is unacceptable. There has to have beeen some big out there the last couple of years somewhere looking for playing time that can board and defend at a SEC level out there?

I think that was supposed to be Collins, but evidently he’s either still injured or being held out for a medical redshirt

CMM is solely responsible for his roster content.

It doesn't take that long to turn a basketball program around with the right players.

Year 2 now.

The current roster is all his and any deficiencies are his fault. (Not Scott Woodwards or Will Wades)

He'll get one more season after this one and it will be Sink or Swim.....

He had family on staff but he also knew he wasn't going to be there more than a year anyway. Ended up not mattering because the NCAA is frauds and wanted Cunningham in the tourney too.

Maybe he should recruit them then like his predecessor did.

His predecessor is why we were facing probation when we had to find a new coach.

That’s the thing, we’ve gotten our answer from the macolytes. They say however long it takes is how long he should get so by that logic he could lose forever and they’d be happy. So off the bat exclude anything those people say but you’re right, this is his team and next year won’t be any better. That’ll be 3 bad years with nothing in recruiting suggesting anything better to come.

Love the post about surely there were other coaches out there we could have gotten. LOL. How clueless could you be. No one is absolving Mcmahon of anything. Mcmahon is not a great coach right now. He is not above criticism. No coach is. It is the constant 24/7 bitching from the MM haters who have absolved wade of ANY part in this. There is a learning curve in the SEC just as BK found out his first 2 years. Of course he is responsible for his roster, after they publicly stated no sanctions for LSU basketball. yes he has missed in the portal so far. That is something he needs to improve although the guy from KY was supposed to be another boarder and Chest redshirted wrong or right. If Both of those players stay and he signs the 6'10" freshman and maybe Reed learns to be more aggressive on the boards they may have that problem solved. With a 6'2" 4 star PG committed if he can sign him and Cook stays then that will help the freshman learn the position and who knows may end up starting ala Bingham at KY. Ward and Williams at the 2 can become consistent shooters. get a couple of more bodies in transfer portal, maybe another PG or 2 or another big and maybe we start to see some major improvement. If not then he will eventually be let go. Not that complicated.

Mike Williams has been a solid contributor to the team this year, and he was rated outside the top 100. Why are you so sure that Curtis Givens can't contribute?

Big men I agree you should probably not expect a ton in their 1st year unless they are a top 20 prospect who is expected to contribute right away. Bur several posters are high on Givens coming in and helping right away. Similar to what they were saying about Mike Williams.

You don’t know that.
I find it more likely he doesn’t cut it than he does, but the it is no telling what comes our way next year in the portal in addition to the development of players.
