I thought I read somewhere that their goal is to have a location every 100-150 miles along I-10. They have one at Baldwin Beach Express. They are putting one at the Menge exit near Gulfport. Working your way west, the next would be Baton Rouge/Denham/Walker (maybe even Hammond since you have I-55 and I-12) then Lake Charles as the next one that is open is in Baytown TX. That would make them all 100-150 miles apart.
I could be wrong though
You are not wrong.
They have done research that especially during the day, most families need to stop after 2-2.5 hrs of driving for snacks and for the kids to pee. Thats about 150 miles or so depenidng on traffic conditions.
Any closer than that, they run the risk of the stores stealing business from each other.

Why are they building these mega gas stations?
Aren't we all suppose to be driving electric cars in 5-10 years
The margin on gas that they sell is extremely small, more small than normal for a gas station.
They want you to come inside, pee, get a coke, oh look there's some beef jerky, oh those sandwiches look good, and little kid loves that shirt, and it's a $235 stop.
And all those items inside have a very high markup.

JBE was willing to blow the entire thing up over the design of the frontage road
When the state has absolute control over so many things, they see no reason to have to negotiate.
Big reason why we need a complete rebuild of our government system to return power back to the parishes and cities.

Landry needs to lobby for one in the greater BR area.
You have I-10 and I-12 as prime candidates. Surely there's somewhere for it
Every LA baw here hates this 'gas station' and Loves is much better anyway. Plus, it would just muck up I-10. Which is it?

DOT. That's all we need to know.

The project had been stymied for months because previous DOTD higher- ups wouldn’t budge from how they thought the road should be designed. But with the change of department leadership under Gov. Jeff Landry, the posture has softened. “Before, they were stuck on ‘this is the way it’s got to be and that’s it,’” Walker said.
This shite right here has been going in Louisiana for over 100 years. Probably the main reason we're last in everything. Waiting for a payout....

The Millerville Bucees was coming. It was set to be the first Bucees outside of Texas.
But then they were notified that most of their meat products they use in their sandwiches as well as their jerky was not federally inspected (by the federal arm of the USDA). The companies they used to process the meat were inspected by the state arm of the USDA, so their meat products could not leave Texas.
They immediately sent letters to their suppliers telling them they had to get federally inspected or they would lose the business. It took these companies some time to make the switch, Buccees couldn't guarantee the meat would be good to go by the time Millerville was built.
At the same exact time, the BR flood happened and they had the opportunity to cut the project out alltogeher before spending their money or to procede not knowing about the flooding and not knowing when their meat would be able to ship outside of Texas. So they cut the project as quickly as they could and regrouped. The I10 Alabama Bucees was built instead and we all know how crazy busy that one is, so they made a good choice.
If you didn't know, the guy who started Bucees went on a road trip with his wife to Florida. His wife, having to use the bathroom on the trip (the story is told that she was on some medication that made her have to stop a lot, but not sure if that's true), always complained about the bathrooms at the gas stations. The guy said he wanted to build gas stations with the cleanest bathrooms, the kind of gas station people WANT to stop at. His dream was to build them from Texas to Florida. It's a great story.

If you think Buc-ees won't be embracing charging stations, you are blind. People will stop and charge, shop for a bit, eat, then be on their way
Amazingly, Bucees has no tables for you to eat. This is by design to keep it clean and to keep people from loitering.
Same reason they have a strict no truckers policy.

Is it coincidence the SFCS JBE is gone and LADOTD is finally fixing the potholes on I-fkn-20 between Arcadia and Ruston?????
Answer-No.

When you look at the tax abatements
No one is getting paid on this
Buccees is charging sales tax then not paying it to city and parish??
There's no way that's what their tax abatement deal is.

Same thing happened with that mongoloid (edwards) and his cronies a few years ago when there was an attempt to build a Buc-ee's around Denham Springs.
Buc-ee’s ain’t greasing nobody’s palms because they don’t need to. I can promise you that.

Not going to ever happen. After Ruston there’ll potentially (probably) be one along I-10 west of the Mississippi River. Not happening east of the river.
Posted on 2/14/24 at 12:14 pm to tigerpawl
You can stop the embarrassment because the North Shore area will never see one. Anything east of the Mississippi River will not see one. They had their chance years ago and blew it with the last minute demands from the local property owners and Buc-ee’s said all that.

OT: jealous of North Louisiana getting a Buc Ees
Also OT: pissed that it's taking so long.

They’ll do that distance mainly/only within Texas. Other states, not so much. There could be multiple locations per state but Texas is where they may put them closer together.

In most parts of the state, I'd side with local leaders over state ones.
That might not be the case in a couple of areas, as you pointed out.
