I will first say that my fandom of soccer (football) usually peaks around the World Cup. Used to play FIFA in college all the time so I’m familiar with a lot of the intricacies/rules. I wouldn’t describe myself as much more than a casual observer, however, I am looking to try to expand into becoming fans of other sports (currently football and college baseball are my top 2). I figured the EPL would be a good start to try to get into other sports. I don’t want to be a bandwagon fan and choose a team that I know will be good every single year (Man U, Liverpool, etc.). Looking to follow a team that has some sort of the following characteristics:

1. Plays a “fun” style. I don’t even know what this would look like. But a team with more of an attacking philosophy. Trying to be aggressive. Lots of ball movement

2. Has some sort of Star power or young up and coming quality players to follow

3. Not in danger of relegation. Again don’t want the big dogs but also don’t want to follow a team that has zero chance of competing (as a Carolina Panthers fan I can only take so much loosing). Middle of the road teams that are at least competitive are fine

4. Relative ease to watch. Meaning are there special streaming services that need to be purchased. I currently stream with YoutubeTV and have ESPN+

5. Cool stadium atmosphere. I know that every stadium in the EPL will have packed stands and big crowds but are there any unique fan bases with cool traditions or stadiums that can make for fun viewing experiences

I’m sure there are tons of other things that go into picking a team but this is where I’m at. If there are things I may be overlooking just let me hear them. Appreciate any and all feedback!

But really, you’re going to have to buy a Peacock subscription to watch the majority of the games, plus some way to have USA and NBC access (not sure if YouTubeTV covers those).

You should watch as many matches as you can and decide based off what you see.

West Ham is out.

West Ham doubly out. They do hit the rest of your points though.

Sounds like you want to join the pleasant misery that is Tottenham fandom. Let me explain:

Ange ball is non stop attacking even when the game might dictate more defensive posturing.

Heung Min Son is a South Korean deity at this point and one of the more likable stars on the planet.

Spurs may not win trophies, but they are usually in Europe and are never in danger of relegation.

Recently completed new stadium that is considered the best in the league and regularly hosts NFL games. It’s a modern, corporate stadium so it may be antiseptic compared to other grounds, but it’s a great venue.

I just did a quick search on the internet on “what EPL team should I follow” which lead me to an online quiz and it pointed me to Liverpool. TBH, I really had no idea who any of the teams were outside of Manchester United (due to Beckham) but I really enjoy their history, their colors and cool stadium.

The answer is Leeds, always Leeds.

Honest response - I was in a similar situation as you a few years ago and the best answer is to just watch games. You’ll gradually start gravitating to a couple of teams and can decide from there.

Some other, more knowledgeable fans, can correct me here but in my opinion, unless you’re a fan of the big 6 (7 now with Newcastle), all have some risk of relegation.

There are a few documentaries on Amazon (maybe Netflix as well) that follow a few different teams throughout the year. I know Leeds did one, Man City, Tottenham and a few others. That was the start for me - watching the Tottenham documentary, then went to a USMNT game in Nashville shortly thereafter and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Just going by your criteria I think Spurs meet everything. Big 6, so no risk of relegation, but haven’t won anything in a long time so they don’t get the respect of City, United, etc.. new stadium.

Brighton is an interesting club. They have a very good manager, young players, and one of the best scouting teams around. They develop young talent and make a killing selling them to Chelsea.

If you want to be a man then Wolves is the correct answer.

Blackburn. But just give it a few more years until they’re actually PL again. Damn I’d love to see them back up..

Leicester would be another good option though as they’re definitely getting promoted. Southampton too, and others have already mentioned Leeds. All three of these are likely getting promoted.

Based on your parameters:
Tottenham
Wolves
Palace (will be in relegation fight soon though)

My team, Everton, is a lost cause for the foreseeable future.

Burnley is an up and coming squad who is owned by Dude Perfect and JJ Watt. Would be a great choice.

You're describing Borussia Dortmund but they're in the Bundesliga

Aston Villa is the team you're looking for in the premiere league though

You’re picking a club based on these criteria on 2024. In 10 years everything could be completely different.

Why does anyone need to root for a team just because? Just enjoy the games as a neutral and naturally you’ll develop some season to season rooting interest.

As you may or may not be able to tell from my avatar, I support Fulham and have done for...wow... 22 years. They signed American Eddie Lewis in 2002, were then promoted to the Premier League that year as well. Once up, they signed the great Brian McBride, Carlos Bocanegra, Eddie Johnson(bust), Clint Dempsey, as well as Kasey Keller at the tail end of his playing days in England.

Current USA players Tim Ream (ten years at the club) and Antonee "Jedi" Robinson play at Craven Cottage currently. They are managed by Marco Silva and play a very upbeat, "out-of-the-back" style which is exceedingly pleasant to watch, especially coming up on the left side from Antonee Robinson, up to Tom Cairney or Willian .

Their ground, Craven Cottage, is a mix of brand spanking new on the Riverside of the stadium which juts INTO the Thames, to the Stevenage Road/Johnny Haynes stand opposite. The JH was built in 1906 and has a wonderful look along with the club building or the "cottage" in the corner between it and the Putney end.

However, Fulham are derided as being very "posh" and while the Hammersmith end of the ground is pretty raucous, the ground is small, and opposing fans insult it as being a "library."

They reached the Europa League final in 2010, losing in 120 minutes to Atletico Madrid after a fairy-tale run, knocking out Juventus, Wolfsburg, Hamburg, Shakhter Donetsk among others. They deserved better from that match. May Diego Forlan be fricked.

As I mentioned they were the first club to take a REAL chance on American players, which is why I chose to follow them 20 years ago. Before that, I tried to follow clubs with Americans, but the few who were over there were often alone, and often just goalkeepers at each club.

Fulham have been a yo-yo club in the last five or eight years, but are solidly mid-table the last two years. They often boss the second division and struggled in the Premier League. However, these last couple, have been much better.

Nottingham Forest tops the Premier League for this in my humble opinion. Also a great name for a club.
