First, Landry opposed the sale as AG, and now that the governor gets to appoint someone to the non-profit board that will get the bulk of the sale proceeds, he supports it.

Then, we learned that despite the mission of the non-profit is to promote health outcomes, all of the grants will need to go to Pennington Biomedical.

Pennington does great things of course, but why would you restrict yourself to only partnering with one medical research foundation?

Well, now we know why.

LINK

quote:

The chief of staff for Gov. Jeff Landry has worked as a lobbyist for Pennington Biomedical Research Center, the institute that the governor has singled out to receive potentially millions of research dollars as part of the controversial proposed sale of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana.

Landry aide Kyle Ruckert, who also served as a campaign strategist for Landry’s gubernatorial bid last year, held the lobbying contract until late last year when his wife Lynnel took it over exclusively. The contract, which is for representation in Washington, pays $40,000 per year, according to federal filings.

I mean, at least Bobby J did a few things "good" for the state before he went full retard. Landry is headed straight there as quick as he can.

quote:

The governor’s office and Lynnel Ruckert both said they had not discussed the Pennington Biomedical decision beforehand.

“Pennington is a world-class research facility that is at the forefront of promoting health and eliminating disease,” Kate Kelly, the governor’s communications director, said in a text. “Lynnel Ruckert’s federal contract with Pennington has absolutely nothing to do with this potential new funding for the center. Frankly, both parties were surprised to learn of each other’s involvement.”

Please tell me that no one is dumb enough to actually believe this.

This is why government needs to exit medical and healthcare altogether.

They'll get it passed with ease but make it sound close.

The fix is in.

So you’re surprised that a slimy politician is doing slimy things now that he has more power?

Jeff Landry has already shown us who he is, this isn’t surprising.

Remember the study Pennington did on sugar, they determined sugar had no effect on obesity.Rather it was a lack of exercise.
Study was funded by Coca-Cola.

Hat I find odd and completely unsurprising is how quickly the advocate is going after Landry’s staff.. don’t recall the rush to stymie Edward’s so early.. what a shocker.

I’m hoping he proves me wrong, but I’m of the opinion that Gov Landry is just going to be a conservative version of John Bel Edwards, which is not a good thing for anyone who wants transparent, de-centralized government in Louisiana.

He will use the bully pulpit of the 4th Floor just like JBE, Jindal, EWE and the Longs.

Of course that rag is going to go after Landry and his staff more aggressively than they did JBE.

Still, though, that should not take away from the facts behind this ordeal not looking great.

Optics are one thing but reality of a situation is more important.. ruckert essentially ran his campaign and has been in lobbying forever…. The fact that he is in the administration and is part of the decision process is completely normal. If there’s something nefarious then they should report it but the mere fact that his wife may benefit is unsurprising

I'm not surprised. I spent a year telling this board Landry was not who we needed.

I'm curious what his fan boys think, though

OK

Do you support what he did here?

Yes, the Advocate treats Republicans unfairly, but does that change or somehow make ok what he is doing?

This is the proverbial "don't shoot the messenger"

For most of the Trumpers on here, that's good enough. They don't want good government, they want to hit back at the Dems.

My goodness, our standards are disturbingly low, if you think this is "normal"

He was lobbying for this group 60 days ago, and his wife still is.

Penningtons and federal/state money and you’re shocked.

Next you’re going to tell me that the Enquists don’t have anything to do with real estate deals around the felicianas the last fifty years

So it’s not normal for politicians to hire people who worked for them to get elected? Is it your assertion that he and his wife planned this whole thing to benefit Pennington? And working his way into Landry’s inner circle just to get this deal through? So it’s your view that none of this would’ve happened if the Ruckert’s wouldn’t have been involved in his campaign?

The article is a hit piece trying to drive a wedge .. thats fine for the advocate to do but because of the way they’ve been completely one sided over the past administration, I simply don’t hold any regard to their reporting. They have earned little credibility to peak my interests with such drivel

Definitely an Advocate attempt to torpedo the Landry administration. Just wait until they start running Walt Hastleman Cartoons of Landry which I don’t think they laid a hand on Edwards. Jindal was blasted in cartoons.

As far as the Blue Cross sale, it can go down in flames. Even as a policy holder for the last 18 or so years, I am getting nothing in return. My employer is getting a nice 3,000 check, but not me.

The Advocate didn’t make Landry exclude all of higher education except Pennington.

That plus the fact that he got himself an appointment to a private board that will hand out $200m a year is shady as frick.

We should have stuck with Buddy Caldwell as AG and then elected him Governor. He might be more corrupt than Valdimir Putin but at least I could be making bank in "studies" for the state.
