I try my best to hold on to my Louisiana roots, still consider myself a Louisianian. Moved here for college and never went back to Louisiana.

Louisianians in Texas fall into a couple groups:

Born and grew up in South Louisiana, strong cajun cultural upbringing? Probably not going to claim yourself as Texans no matter how long you are there.

New Orleanians - same. They'll always be from New Orleans if they grew up in that culture. Hell, I know a girl raised in Texas by New Orleans people and she considers herself NOLA over being Texan.

probably also matters when you moved. Did you leave for college or just after? Or did you move when you were in school and living under your parents roof?

I see this all the time with immigrants to the US, whether from Nigeria, Mexico, or Pakistan. They retain their culture.
