Seems like there are many people into high end coffee on this board. I figured this would be a good place to highlight coffee beans, equipment and techniques.

If you find any online deals go ahead and post them here. Hopefully we can get some run on this thread similar to the bourbon and homebrew threads.

Haitian Blue

Black Knight

I just ordered two pounds of each of these. Completely different styles. If I can’t taste the difference in these two shots then I’m fricking something up.

I plan to use these for espresso shots with an occasional pour over.

Why does Starbucks Pike taste burnt at most Starbucks but not at every Starbucks?

One tip is how to leverage the strength of the dollar to save a couple hundred bucks. You can order some of the good stuff from a retailer in Italy, Espresso Coffee Shop. I think that makes the stuff grey market in the US, so I wouldn’t order an espresso machine from them, but I just ordered a Eureka Specialita. Even with shipping it was about $180 below the cost of any domestic retailer. I’ll let you know when it comes in if it was a legit deal.

For me, most mornings it is:

Into a burr mill grinder into an AeroPress into my cup with a little bit of sweetener added. In the Summer I'll switch it up and make cold brew instead.

Orleans Coffee Exchange is local, has been servicing most of the fine dining restaurants in NOLA for years and properly roasts an amazing variety of beans from around the world. I've been using their coffee for years now, have tried other coffees that are also excellent, and I still have found no reason to switch from them. Even if you get it just for their amazing chicory blend you'd be happy; it's the best out there.

Here’s my setup. Braun Multiserve + Capresso Infinity Plus for drip. Turin Legato + Turin DF64 for espresso.

Trying to dial in some light roast Ethiopian Sidamo on the espresso machine. Forgot to grind coarser this morning so had another long and under-extracted pull this morning. Did 18 in, 40 out, over a minute measuring from the time I hit the button. Need to dial back grind til I get a good 1:2 or 1:3 ratio in 30s and adjust from there.

This was my go to whole bean for pour over until they discontinued the whole reserve line recently. Shame because it was great coffee and easily sourced. Now i am on the hunt for a replacement but whole beans are so hard to find locally. I will have to cave in and order online i guess.

French Press only

I buy freshly roasted beans from Flambeaux or Abita Roasting in Mandeville/Madisonville. I try to only buy beans that have been roasted that week.

I have them ground the day I purchase.

I usually buy Italian roast or another dark roast.

I like French Truck in BR when I'm there.

Love this thread, I usually use Aeropress on the daily, but will also go with pour over if I'm looking for that clean cup o Joe.

Does anyone know where to buy a good Hawaiian Kona? Preferably one that won’t break the bank. Thank you.

When I drank coffee daily, I had a Nespresso machine. It uses pods you order online. Great coffee IMO. I'm no expert though.
