I'm in need of round bales. I live in Prairieville. I can haul them. The drought has really done a job on the hay crop! Thanks for any help/leads. I appreciate it.

It depends on where it is, price, etc

I live in the same area and haven't had any luck locally, outside of square bales at Sacs and Old Time. A buddy of mine told me he found some in MS but they wanted north of $80 for uncovered bales

They've been getting that price too. Stocked up at 40 per when it was still hot and nobody was looking.

The thought of feeding square bales to cows at 9-10 per bale is not good.

My friend has about 6-7 left.
It’s mixed grass. They’re 4 x 5.5 net wrapped. $100 each. About 1 hour drive from BTR.

I only have two horses right now, so its too bad.
IF by chance I get lucky and find some, how many bales are you in need of?

I need 12-15 round bales;however, I won't pay 90-100 per bale. I paid 15.50 for square bales at Old Time in Gonzales. It's horse grade hay . I only bought 5 bales. They are out of bedding/cow hay completely. The last shipment was in Nov-I don't believe another shipment is going to come.
Thanks for all replies.

Did you plant an area of Rye grass?
Posted on 2/1/24 at 11:17 am to LSUDad
Yes, I do have a rye grass pasture. I cycle them onto it for 1&1/2-2 hrs a day.
I'M also wondering if the livestock market is up ,down, or what? Selling is also an option.

I use to plant a mixture of Rye and Winter Wheat! You ever heard of creep grazing?

This is the worst time of year to buy hay. You either have enough to last til spring or you dont. And the people who have enough charge the heck out of people who dont.

You're going to have a hard time finding hay, then, because everyone I know that deals with hay is saying it's more than that in most places.
Guy I spoke with last week said he stocked up in the fall at $70/bale. Neighbors were laughing. Same neighbors are trying to offer him $100/bale because they can't find it cheaper than $120/bale.
