Nope. Can't find good craftsmen that want to come to work and progress. Likewise with office support, I have been through several data clerks who can't show up on time, can't learn simple Excel and are generally just lazy.

And do you require 10 years of experience?

So will the people who couldn't receive emergency services because someone thought that they were too special to work on Christmas.

Is anyone hearing about layoffs at their employer?
No, but we didn't get a raise last year, and we have a lot of dead weight around here...

Housing market and employment are frustrating for sure
Prices remain high, volumes are up
Everyone needs workers and are overpaying for terrible talent, but the corporate layoff numbers are starting to pile up

Another reason I won't work in emergency services.

Unemployment is at record lows.
Only by counting unemployed who are actively looking for jobs. If they arent looking within 4 weeks of the Bureau of Statistics work, they are not counted. Its a dumb fricking metric and so are the people that believe it.
Its like the government not accounting for food or gas in their inflation numbers. Those are two pretty big items

“Our company is strong
In my experience, when a company feels the need to assure everyone things are going strong its because its not.
I remember in Fall 2008, we (in the south) wasn't feeling the impact of the great recession like other parts.. yet..
The company decides to "celebrate its employees" and rents a place by work and has a catered lunch for everyone. The head of our office (president of our location) gets up and gives this big speech about how we are about to get even busier and the contracts we currently have, alone, will get us through the next 8-10 years then after that comes the projects that have been put on hold which is another 3-5 years.
The week before Christmas 2008 they announced they will be doing 3 rounds of layoffs with the first beginning that week.
The funny thing, the president who assured everyone of all the work coming up, resigned 3 weeks before layoffs were announced.

I've been hearing about so called "covid layoffs". As in offices that never reopened fully after covid telling employees to come into the office usually 3 or more days a week, or find employment elsewhere..

Hope you or your kids never need emergency medical care on a holiday. Or that your house doesn't catch fire.
