I’m really trying to get back into reading books but struggling to find books that keep my attention right off of the bat and maintain my attention throughout the book. Love horror books but not really picky when it comes to reading just about anything. Recommendations from the board?

For years I wondered what the attraction of Louis L'amour books was but I never read any, not being sure I would like the Western genre. One day I found a Louis L'Amour book in a room on a work trip, so I started it. I was hooked immediately.

I doubt anyone will ever call his books great works of literature but they are interesting and he is a great storyteller. Lots of details about the history of the era as well.

So if you haven't, maybe try some Louis L'amour, all the Sacket novels are great.

I just finished the entire Flashpoint series by Tara Reid and Mike Krauss.

It'll keep your attention.

It's post apocalyptic but not the zombie bravo sierra crap. It's also very well done - the authors did their research, thoroughly.

Character development is outstanding just be forewarned - they don't mind killing-off your favorites.

Every volume was a page turner.

You might do better with audiobooks. Having someone read the book to me just works better. Plus, you can listen while you drive.

The legends of the first empire is a great 6 book series by Michael j Sullivan.

There are 20+ books that he has written in this world along a 3000 year timeline. Legends is at the very beginning of that timeline.

Sometimes you have to be patient and let the characters and plot develop. Lots of incredible books don’t start with a bang

Bernard Cornwell last kingdom series.

Fast moving and quick reads, and there are like a dozen of them if you like the first one.
