You didn't post the part of the column where it said that the same thing happened after 2016 and 3 straight 7-9 seasons. The column said that Sean payton basically had grown complacent and sort of given up. Zach Strief went into Payton's office after the season and basically chewed him out and told him to get with the program. Duncan seems to be arguing that things with SP were worse in 2016 than they are with DA now.

The issue here is that Sean Payton had a basis of success. DA just experienced his first winning season with probably the easiest schedule ever.

You didn’t mention the part where Allen won us a Super Bowl and got us to a conference championship game before things went bad. It took a half decade of being head coach with the easiest schedule in saints history with an expanded schedule for him to barely have his first winning season…..
