The mid-to-late 80s were the prime arcade times for me. When we’d go to
Cortana Mall, I’d take a piece of my allowance and head over to Space Port. The old narrow, dark Spaceport with the old man in the blue jumpsuit with the coin changer belt at the entrance.

All the games were a quarter, so you could really get some mileage on a buck or two.

I’d play Paper Boy, Ring King, Punchout, Spy Hunter…

It was a lot of fun before all the games went up to 50 cents and a dollar.

Cruisin USA had a steering wheel and gas pedal/brakes. If you hit a cow just right its head would bounce down the road and you could see into its skull.

Daytona USA had a setup for two drivers. I would try to crush the other driver between me and the wall.

NHL Open Ice was great too. Hockey version of NBA Jam.

Anyone remember Slick Track off Florida and Little John? They had a off road truck game we used to play a lot.

Yes, he’s the one. That’s unfortunate about his son.

The only arcade game I liked.

The only one I truly hated. I simply couldn't play it.

Galaga, Joust, pac-man/mrs. Pac-Man, pole position, Skate-or-die were some of my favorites.

Pitfall, space invaders, on the Atari.

Space Port at Cortana was awesome.

For you Central boys, I lived in Biltmore and had Space Shuttle arcade at the front of the subdivision. I even worked there summer between freshman and sophomore year.

I was pretty good at Donkey Kong, up to a point, but there was a ceiling on that game that only masters got past.

My true jam was Spy Hunter. Even now, 30+ years later, I dream of hitting the oil slick button on idiot drivers.....

Challenges was the name of the arcade at Esplanade Mall in the 90’s. I remember they had their own tokens and did a 2 for 1 on Sundays if you bought a roll. I played the hell out of Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct.

The money I spent on silent scope could’ve probably been invested in the early 2000s and made my family quite wealthy

DigDug. Pac Man. Asteroids. So many. Video game machines were everywhere, fried chicken joints, pool halls, game rooms, arcades, laundromats. All through the 80s.

My dad said that dragonslayer was the hardest arcade game and there was literally only 1 kid in 10th grade who could actually beat the game. It was all over school and that kid slayed poon because of it he also said he and his friends played donkey kong alot on a flat table arcade game.

Pizza Hut in Donaldsonville had a sweet, sit-down Dig Dug machine and Galaga, too. We loved it.

A guy opened a small arcade in Mandeville in the early 1980’s. They had one of each of the most popular games and a couple of pinball machines. I remember one pinball machine was Nip-It, the same one they had in Arnold’s on Happy Days. Anyway, the owner banned me from playing Pac Man because I could make 1 quarter last the better part of an hour.

Nick’s EAT didn’t care.
