In the town I grew up in our mall had 2. The Gold Mine and Jolly Chollys. ( think it was jolly chollys). I remember my brother would spend hours in the Gold Mne. I loved that mall.
Old Hammond Square Mall

We had what was mostly a pool hall about a mile from the house when I was a kid, but they had about 10 arcade games. My buddies and I wore that place out around ages 12-13. Pretty sure the Mike Tyson punchout game was our game of choice back then.
The bike ride there was mostly through a neighborhood, but we did have to ride on a busy highway part of the way. No real shoulder of course.

When we started cutting grass for money, it was glorious to go play games for a few hours then ride over to the pizza hut.

One time at the Esplanade Mall arcade, I beat the TMNT arcade game. 12 year old me was walking on clouds all day.

Lakeside Mall used to have video games spread throughout the mall proper.

The Plaza Lakeforest Mall arcade was the GOAT though.

In the mid-80's there was a rundown arcade on the corner of W Chimes and Lake. Major Havoc and Cliff Hanger were my addictions.

Defender and Pole Position at Howard Brothers in Baker, LA. Then I'd grab a quart sized carton of rimfire .22lr and some Whoppers.

From 80-83 I bagged groceries at Dorignac’s. We had one 30 min break (lunch), my late friend Bobby and I would always break together and play Asteroids at the arcade on the corner of the parking lot (formerly Burger Chef).

Galaga

I could play for hours on one quarter... took 28 minutes of dodging the laser thing from the bottom left hand alien, but then you got no more lasers shot at you.

Play Pole Position until the game ended, don't remember the score.

Hated hated hated Defender.

$10 roll of quarters was entertainment for most of an afternoon playing most.

In the early 70’s I spent my $10 on 5 box’s of shotguns shells. Federal Field Loads.

On sale for 1.97 a box at West Bros. In the afternoons I was working to get the ten bucks.

No offense to the arcade guys. We didn’t have to deal with y’all in the marsh.

Godfather’s Pizza, Daphne Alabama, 1984. Asteroids, Centipede, Night Driver, and of course PacMan if I remember the lineup correctly…

We had a redneck water park with an arcade right in the middle of the country. Couple of water slides & they just widen the creek.

Was there everyday during the summer, with my best bud, and we would pick up trash on the premises before it opened & after it closed to earn our way in.

That’s awesome. That arcade was still open when I first moved down here 25 or so years ago.

Did you know Joey and his Dad?
Him and his dad Joe used to be my customers. Good folks. Made good money with them. Great people. Unfortunate about Joey.

The only Joe I knew was the owner. I think his kids, primarily his daughter, run the store today.

The was a an arcade in the curve of Lake and Chimes Street just off the LSU Campus (catty corner from the Infirmary and directly behind/next door to Magoo's). We used to ride our bikes over there to play air hockey, pinball and play tunes on the jukebox. The attendant was a short black man who was always munching on a stogie. The building years later became a Rocco's Po-Boy joint.

There was a place in Gulf Shores called Games by the Sea (at the Hangout) that we used to play at while down in OBA. OBA was empty in the 80’s, so GS was the place to go for night life. I remember Frogger, Galaga, Phoenix, PAC Man, Pole Position, Spy Hunter, and my last year to go, they had just gotten Mike Tyson Punch out. Huge lines to finally get a shot.

Supper at Sea N Suds, a game of Putt Putt and a night cap at Games by the Sea was quite the Friday night in 1983-1987 for small kid. All the adults were at the Pink Pony having drinks.

I do remember how dark it got leaving the first light at OBA (compared to now) and the 8 mile trip to GS was completely dark and void of traffic until you reached the Gulf State Park lodge. (The original one).

Space Port in Cortana playing Defender. It wasn’t really a hangout, but it definitely was a place you hit up when at the mall for sure.

There was another arcade right next to the theaters in Bon Marche Mall. I can’t remember if it was a Space Port as well, or another name, but it was pretty cool too back when Bon Marche was still a thing.
