Cool. We have had 5 bluebird eggs hatch into 4 babies and they flew the coup a few weeks back. We have 5 more buns in the oven for our parent bluebirds. Hopefully we can get one more good brood out of those guys.

I've had two consecutive pairs of bluebirds raise successful clutches in an old woodpecker nest in a power pole so far this year...I've already posted pictures of the first group, including fledging day, ITT...I missed the fledging of the second group, but here are a few pics of the parents at the nest...

Watched my mom's feeder on Sunday for a bit.

Tufted Titmouse

Carolina Chickadee

Female Cardinal

also found a ring-necked snake that I picked up to show my nieces. My oldest niece even held it herself.

and a spotted cucumber beetle that I probably should have squashed.

I did not see it, but my Merlin app picked up a Common Nighthawk the other night - which i thought was cool as hell.

that is amazing.

we have a ton of birds, but the other day a Hawk tried to snag a Mourning Dove from the yard, and all of a sudden 8 crows came out of nowhere and fricked that hawk up

also, for those that have not heard of the App, check out the Merlin app - it is free and identifies birds really good - even picked up an owl the other night.

I used the birdnet app on Sunday while we were sitting on my parents' porch because I heard a call that I didn't recognize. Turns out it was a Summer Tanager.

Saw two types of birds that I'd never ID'd or photographed yesterday at Fort Pickens:

Common Nighthawk

Frigatebird

Took this one of a blue heron because I liked its hair.

Went to Blackwater River State Park on Sunday, and hiked around Bear Lake. Saw some cool stuff there.

Pileated Woodpecker

Orchard Oriole

King Bird

baby bluebird

Bald Eagle

Parent and child eagle from about 400 yards away

My Pops and family always called Nighthawks "Bull Bats". They fly to catch bugs at dawn and dusk, and sleep most of the day. You should try to watch them fly sometime. They make a really cool noise when they dive and swoop downward. I don't know how to describe it, kind of an echoy boom.

No birds again, but more bugs.

Maple Clearwing Moth

Twice Stabbed Lady Beetle (the seventh native lady beetle I've seen this year around my place)

Illustrious Greenbottle Fly

Hornworm Tachinid Fly (this one is a good fly, its larvae are parasites of hornworms and other caterpillars that damage vegetables and other plants)

No common name for this one, but another parasitic fly

Large Milkweed Bug

American Snout (the derpiest of butterflies)

American Lady

Came across a Great Egret at the park up the road Sunday between storms.Had an 18mm-55mm lens on so didn't get a big close up but was cool enough (we only get Egrets here when they're migrating).

Haven't gotten much birding in the last two weeks because it's rained damn near every single day.

You don't realize how big those suckers are until you get reasonably close to one. Had one fly right passed my head once out in the woods.

Grapeleaf Skeletonizer Moth

Yellow-collared Scape Moth

And this pic just annoys me. It is a Wrinkled Soldier Beetle (a beneficial) that was just out of focus to keep it from being a cool pic.

Both merlin and inaturalist identify this guy as an eastern wood pewee, even though it has much more yellow than it should...

Here is a series of the pewee showing off an 8 spotted forester moth it caught...it swallowed the moth, then coughed...it the last picture, you can see particles of the moth in the air

He caught this dude's cousin!

Eight-spotted Forester Moth

Got it with the cell phone after chasing it across the yard. Still haven't gotten a good camera pic of it.
