I think that's an Alabama or aTm fans just pretending to be an LSU fan.

Dude has been on a serious melt lately.

The middle of the Defense was really bad and that is hard to hide. The linebackers showed little improvement (House position). The safeties were horrible most of the year, with no progress.

I can’t think of another team that played so soft on coverage, yet gave up so many big plays. When we finally blitzed, we would telegraph and send everyone, or blitz and play off coverage with a 15 yd gap. I don’t think we have elite talent, but whoever keeps rolling out the same scheme, with the same players and expecting different results needs therapy.

compared to a football scout, but I just cannot fathom the idea that talent is the primary reason for our suckage. This isn’t UNLV.

Talent is Def part of the reason.

Just watch major burns and Penn try and make plays.

They also take bad angles and hit the wrong holes.

I once argued tooth and nail with an NFL scout over Johnny manziel. He thought he was the best thing since sliced bread, I told him zero chance he makes it in the NFL. Saw him a year later and he apologized to me.

We beat a good Mizzou team on the road and had 2h leads vs Bama/ole miss. We’re close….i think we’re contenders in 2025.

I would assume as an NFL scout, he knows what the basics of the scheme are and has seen it be successful in the NFL (and maybe even college.

That has nothing to do with the scheme "not being the issue". It is EXACTLY the issue if the players are not talented enough to play within it, not coached in the proper techniques the scheme requires, if the scheme is too complicated for the college game of today, or even something as simple as the scheme being passive rather than aggressive in the play calling.

I am not picking on you here, but nothing happens in a vacuum. It is the DC's responsibility to make the defense effective. Even if the scheme is the most innovative in history and we get the results we did this season, that scheme as implemented by the DC is complete shite.

It's probably not a good idea to refer to your wife as an "NFL scout." It has a creepy vibe to it.

This sounds like everything that is said on the Rant. So we all could be NFL scouts?

So we totally suck just bc the players suck? Ok, but how were we even worse against common opponents than sun belt level teams? Is our talent … that bad?

Here are some takes from a guy who has forgotten more about football than most of us will ever know!

Just because you're a NFL scout or you've been around the game a long time doesn't mean you're all knowing. There are a lot of people who are very knowledgeable about football, coaching and schenes. They just chose a different profession. If this scout claimed coaching is not the problem, then his words, in which you penned, are very contradictory. No way 30 plus collegiate coaches, who offered scholarships to the majority of the defensive backfield, can be wrong in their evaluation.

BK just putting a spare tire in the trunk. I have no expectation of Swann taking the starting job

two things:
-recruiting/evaluating is a significant part of a college football coach's job. this staff arrived in BR with fewer than 40 scholarship players (total). they have brought in the vast majority of these players that you are critiquing.

-when many players have the same problem(s), then it a coaching problem. when an individual has a unique problem, then that belongs to the player.

I agree that the defense is a rolled over piece of dog shite. They were ALWAYS out of position in the secondary. I must admit it was sweet seeing them end the game. Will Masson Smith become anything aside from a massive disappointment?

Some falls on players. They aren’t very good. Perkins has been piss poor even though House missed used him. I don’t see the same ball player.

this is definitely partially true. I can't help but think that the inability to get the simple things right doesn't reflect on House though.

quote:

- the secondary is horrendous in every single measurable aspect.

This is true and I don't think LSU fans really understand how bad it is.

quote:

- defense doesn’t locate the ball.

This clearly falls on House.

quote:

- it’s a young, slow, undisciplined, sloppy freking mess!

all true

quote:

- lsu is doing a horrendous job of evaluating talent in the portal!

LSU didn't solve a gaping hole it had in the defensive backfield in the portal...and also Speights.

quote:

- adding a vandy qb after developing a heisman qb! Reach!

I think it's pretty clear what the role of Swann is. The chips are in on Nussmeier.

quote:

- if Kelly can retool the defense through the portal to buy us some time we will be ok.

We've already decided not to do that. And, I think it will result in a very bad defense again next year.

quote:

- this is year 3 Kelly is out of excuses! This team has got to play elite defense!

The problem is that this is closer to year 1 because we took a step back in year 2. We don't have 2nd and 3rd year guys who should be ready to start producing.
