A new HC most likely will not want any part of a multi-year rebuild because their arse is now on the line

Your arse being on the line is part of the NFL gig regardless. The Lions and Texans have successfully gone this route. Granted the Texans fired couple coaches in the process. But being nfl coach means you’re always on the hot seat.

The Lions

Success? Yeah, it only took 3 decades. And they still haven't won shite.

Texans. Started in 1999, got to the playoffs in 2010 and a few years after that. Basically, the Saints since 2009.

I'm not using them as the standard.

Big difference with your arse on the line when the roster makeup has little chance to be successful because you have to eat dead money and you need to work through aging contracts; versus an opportunity where you get to work with a roster with some talent that needs a different direction and/or have some ability to mold the roster to your specific needs.

How many years and coaches have the lions gone through. And they still haven’t won anything lol. Campbell came around when the team was basically rebuilt. Many others came in and were fired
