Reminder: The Saints cannot tear it down this offseason. It is virtually impossible.

Due to their salary cap machinations, the Saints will likely have 20 of 22 starters back, at least.

They have restructured too many deals, and cutting virtually any of those players (or trading) would result in a larger cap hit than keeping them.

So those guys will be back. On top of that, just to make it under the cap, they will have to do even more cap maneuvers, resulting in kicking the can even further with some players.

They will also have a pick likely in the teens.

If this team can find ways to repeatedly sign free agents. They can find ways to tear it down and rebuild. I just don’t believe they want to genuinely do that which is the major problem.

Well then the only thing that can be changed is coaching. Make the move

Draft a young QB and hopefully hit on your other picks.

Let Allen and Carmichael return to lead the tank. Let the contracts run their course next year.

Fire Allen and Carmichael as soon as tank is secured. Trade any dead weight after next season.

Bring in young offensive minded coach to pair with new young QB. Hopefully hit in the draft again.

This can be sorted out by the end of next season if done correctly.

This is the sad reality we’re in. Because we kicked so much down the road the only option is to keep going and ride a slow death. The question is how do we do that? It seems like the only way forward is to trade every good contract we haven’t restructured. That way we get under cap without kicking the can, get 75c on the dollar in assets and ride it out. Maybe you want the new coach to do this I don’t know?

Posters will spend the next 6 months saying the same things tear it down fire everyone and start over. But it's just not changing much roster wise. FO and coaches may be different. They went all in on continuity with viable profits and a good dose of job protection.

This is woefully true which is why I hope at the very least we bring in a new OC and DA gives him full control of the offense.
DA is not a HC, we know this. But this is the only option I won't completely riot over outside of him being fired outright.

1. Eat the money you owe now to players who won't be here in 2025. Guys like maye and Mathieu.

2. Don't touch contracts that can let you escape going into 2025. Guys like ram.

3. Commit to the rebuild, allow the option to trade veterans to contenders. Kamara, Lattimore, Davis, etc.

4. Be open to trading young assets like olave, ruiz to stockpile draft picks

It looks really bad now but 2 seasons in a row “experts” were picking the Saints to win the Superbowl. 2 seasons ago the Saints were touted to have a top 5, Superbowl defense. That’s why the game is played on the field and not on paper. On the field exposed what the Saints are lacking…coaching. That is what’s amplifying the now terrible contracts.

They should release Carr outright regardless of contract. Trade back multiple times in this draft accumulating picks for the 2025 draft. Realize you are going to eat dogshit for the 2024 season. Eat the bad contracts in 2024 and do not extend and kick the can. Find a way over the next year and a half to void the bad contracts however possible. Trade any veteran with trade value. Clear them out.

Then you get a top pick in the 2025 draft and a lot of the fat gone off the roster. You’d also be loaded with picks from previous years trade backs. I’d also find a way to maximize compensatory picks over the next few years. Accumulate picks while cleaning the books.

No coach will do this because they realize they’ll be fired. Same with the GM.

It would be the best and fastest way to be competitive again.

Rip it up and start over… is 2-15 really that much different than what we are now?
