Once again believing the prevailing recruiting services is fatally flawed due to basing it on pro potential and not college potential, I believe Fox Sports has it right.
5* - Elite prospect and immediate starter potential as a TR FR. Prospect is a mismatch in talent, skill, or ability to opponents. Has demonstrated outstanding technique and knowledge of the game and will be an immediate impact player in college.
4*- Excellent prospect and has the potential to start as a TR FR and make an impact.
3* Good prospect who is above average and will contribute to the program and will probably eventually start but needs some more development.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My groupings 5* - 1 --> 50....high 4* - 51 --> 150.... medium 4* - 151 --> 250....low 4* 251 --> 400....high 3* --> 400 - 600
Green, Durham, Reliford - 5*
McBryde, Cobbins, Burrell - high 4*
Singleton, J Johnson, Rogers, Atkins, Watkins, Davis, Turner - medium 4*
Billiot, Calloway, Keys, Woodland - low 4*
Lee -high 3*
Cryer - medium 3*

The rest I couldn't find good enough video for to judge. Bottom line is many of the LSU prospects are underrated IMO with Reilford and Cobbins being especially so...along with their ridiculous rating of kickers. Burrell is the #2 PK and rated barely a 3* due to "draft potential"...NUTS!

Transfer portal is becoming the most important thing in recruiting! You can have a top 10-15 class and get a top portal class and still be on par with elite college recruiting. These services don’t account for that yet

Exactly.

Build a solid foundation with high school recruits and fill in needs with portal players is the way to go now. But you can’t just rely on the portal like teams like Ole Miss are doing.

No.

It’s the mid 90s JUCO.

If you keep going to that well you come up dry like we did this year

I accidentally hit Submit instead of Preview before I typed in my opinions of MOST signees....now updated. Video was limited on many of them or was so old (FR or SO year in HS) that I thought it a waste of time to even give an opinion. The transfer highlights of course went back to JR year in HS.

Wrong. It's value is supplementing holes in your personnel created by attrition, graduation and players leaving due to NIL reasons.

Disagree 80%. First, Jordan Jefferson was the highest rated DL LSU had according to PFF...and I agree. Second, Alexander became a good CB the 2nd HALF of the season before he got injured. Third, Swinson was LSU's best pass rusher. Harris looked good as a CB but once again he must have had the same problem as at A&M. Greg Brooks was playing fantastic for his 2nd season in a row before he developed the brain tumor. And I'm pretty sure Daniels who came in 2022 won the Heisman. Oh, and so did Joe Burrow who came to LSU in 2018.

LSU has NOT remotely come up dry as you suggested..even just looking at last season. I WILL give the point that it takes too long sometimes for players who weren't developed within the SAME college program to play together in a team manner. I do think that is an issue which is why Kelly has said he wants to minimize use of the portal as he did this year. Only 10% of the commits/signees came from the portal.

Very good post.

Overall the transfer portal has been a plus for our team. Recruiting and results are two different things. Injuries, attitude, newness, all impact performance of incoming players.

Kelly is building a program and will go to the transfer portal ‘well’ as needed to add to team.

Duce chestnut Omar speights and Denver Harris’ shenanigans are why we are potentially in the playoffs right now.

If we had sunk our developmental time into Welch weeks stamps and Hughes they would have been playing well enough to beat ole miss and possibly bama without Jayden getting hurt.

For sure a Ny6 bowl.

If it’s “more important than high school recruiting” why would you want to limit the number?

Harris was a crap shoot...we all knew that. Speights was a bridge to Whit Weeks for next season. Chestnut I have no clue about. I believe he was all-ACC at Syracuse. The negative I saw on him was he gambled/guessed too much. J K Johnson is SUPPOSED to be good but I'm sick of Ohio St players who can't be healthy. Banks at LSU 2 years...couldn't stay healthy. Johnson injured in pre-season practice and never played this season.

Welch I disagree about. He has been at LSU long enough to look back for the ball AND be able to tackle. He is STILL not strong enough and if Alexander can learn to look back for the ball, Welch should have been able to do so. Can't blame CB coaching when one guy learns and the other guy doesn't. BTW, I never said transport portal was more important than HS recruiting...neither has Kelly. As others have said, it is to FILL HOLES. And if you want the opposite outcome, look at Clemson whose program is in clear decline. And your boy Dabo Swinney refuses to take ANY transfer portal guys and he is paying big time.

As I said.

90s JUCO.

The poster I replied to said it was more important than high school recruiting.

That is an idiotic statement.

I agree with you and Kelly that HS recruiting should come first and THEN transfer portal. But Kelly had no choice because Orgeron left a depleted roster. Remember how many scholarship players LSU had vs K-State in the bowl game 2 years ago...39?

However, I would not say it is 90's JUCO without noting major differences. 1) MOST portal guys have played against major competition from their previous schools...JUCO players have not 2) MANY JUCO guys had other issues...bad grades, suspensions, etc which is why they were in JUCO to begin with 3) Some portal guys have 3 years of eligibility left

I have no earthly idea where the old wives tale of NO CB come from. Alexander is a starting SEC caliber CB...Toviano has shown me the ability to do that...TR FR this year. Stamps improved as the season went on. Yaites can play either CB or S as he did so at Denton Guyer HS in Texas against good competition. J K Johnson may or may not be a good CB...can't tell until he is able to play. Hughes I have no idea about. The bottom line is the LSU secondary got a bad rap...pure and simple. The MAIN issue in the pass defense was a pathetic pass rush...11th in sacks in the SEC. And a lot of those completions came at the expense of LSU LBer play. LSU also just signed 4 more CBs. And BTW the LBer class that LSU just signed is downright awesome! My own opinion is 1 high 4*, 2 medium 4*, and 1 low 4*.

As far as the DT goes, NO ONE has any idea now what the status of that unit is. I think Mingo and Smith almost have to come back to make up for 2023 season. And if McKinley signs with LSU which I believe he will, that is a SUPPOSED 5* addition right there. Way too much Chicken Little going on here with incomplete evidence up to this point.

Georgia, Alabama and Texas have top 5 classes in the SEC. Don’t think just the portal will compete with these guys because I can guarantee they’ll cherry pick 2-3 top rated guys at positions of need in the portal to go with their recruiting class.
