have never, in any venue before or since, seen such fan animosity toward our team and fans as that day in Madison. When our team ran onto the field, they were pelted with booze bottles, beer cans, cold drinks, fruit, etc. It was pretty embarrassing for them.

So you’re saying it reminded you a lot of Tiger Stadium. Cool

This was the summer of Les saying “the offense is going to be pass heavy and wide open”

Worked in Wisconsin for 7 years years, lived near bears summer training camp. Wendell Davis(88) was on the team, Walter Payton chauffeured around in golf cart until his time to run through plays. McMahon at QB, Willie Gualt, Mike Singletary saints did summer practice with bears one of those years. Practice open every day to anyone

The last 3 years of Les’ tenure were nothing but promises of how the offense would be opened up. Nothing ever changed of course. He might as well have just shot us all the bird at that point. What a sad legacy he will leave.
He was definitely full of crap with offseason updates. His legacy is good with me, I appreciate what he did for us. However, in his 11-12 year tenure at LSU we literally watched the game pass him by. His style was effective in mid to late 2000's. Then in the 20teens he couldn't adapt offensively to keep up with the times.

He was stubborn not to change He and Coach O had opportunity to build a dynasty And both let a single natty and money corrupt their thinking.

I took a road trip with my son and some other family members. It was a great trip minus the outcome of the game. Like others said there was optimism that Miles had finally changed his ways. All off season he talked about more passing and an open air attack. No one truly believed but hopeful. We would see in that first game if it was true.

Sure enough it was false. Open the game in the same damn I formation. The end was near for Miles. They still had a chance to win with a FG and Harris throws an INT when they could have ran the ball.

Overall it was great trip. Great iconic stadium and also made a stop in Chicago to see Cubs play the Giants. Great weather too.

Absolutely, one of my more memorable ever.

I never had such optimism...the engine is fine quote told me all I needed.

Me too, most went before I went on Labor Day after. As a Cub fan getting to make a visit so late in that iconic season was a nice bonus, wish our football team could have done better.

Can anyone actually post the quote where Les said he would open up the offense and promised changes on offense?? I hear this a lot but as I recall he said there were some things they needed to get better at in the passing game but that “the engine of the offense was still pretty stinking strong”. Never promised a more wide open passing attack and never intended it to be one as long as he was coach and had a back like LF. Maybe I remember it wrong…..

It was the only non conference regular season loss in over a decade of Les Miles football. To a team that eventually played in the BIG championship.

I’d take o other decade of winning those games right about now.

But the Lambeau tailgate just prior to that was epic. I left stadium that day knowing Miles was gone so some consolation was had.

What an amazing trip only tarnished by the a-hole in the white hat! The frustration watching that putrid, antiquated offense trotted out by the predatory dinosaur of a coach made the LSU crowd around us lose our collective minds!!

It was also the year that Miles was so said to have changed the offense a bit. Well you know the rest of the story. Most disappointing opening season game I have watched. I had tickets to go but got sick a couple days before. Glad I got sick.

The melt after that game was one of the most epic in the history of TD...

The walk of shame out of the stadium through all the Wisconsin fans can’t be erased from memory.

I still think about what that game looks like if LF7 is 100%

Great trip. Sat next to student section. They’re rude, loud, obnoxious and like to eat and drink. Just like us. Then, Miles happened.
Drunk and angry. Wisky fans buying me beers because they felt bad. “We just wanted to keep it close.”
Huge fight with my gf (wife of 5 yrs) leaving Lambeau.
Hoping the Vegas Trip in ‘24 goes better.

Great trip. Stayed in Chicago for a week before the game and worked remotely. Game day met Kevin Mawae on the way into the game. Had great seats on or around the 30. Was like a little school boy until the game started. Did Ricky Jefferson have a pick in that game? I thought we could pull it out until Harris threw a pick and our o lineman nearly decapitated someone.
