Outland by Dennis E. Taylor
Science Fictiony, college students find a way to wormhole to Alternate Earths right as Yellowstone lets loose. Have to find a way to rebuild on a different non human populated version of Earth and explore more other Earths, save the others still alive on original earth and deal with the politics of groups coming together from religious right and liberal college kids.
He wrote the Bobiverse books. It gets kinda cringey at some points, but overall interesting. Bobiverse books are better I think, may be up your alley since it gets pretty political, but it is mostly about a modern day human being frozen after he dies and then turned into a quasi AI self replicating space probe several centuries into the future. Has to rescue humans on a planet they destroyed and explore space/fight other probes.
