I gotta wonder what happened. Zion has never been Ryan Bowen out there in terms of effort, but he wasn’t this bad, even just two weeks ago.

So that’s why I have to ask, what happened? Did he just not care about these games? Did something happen behind closed doors? Something in his personal life?

Because like I said, he’s never been Ryan Bowen, but compared to how he was playing just recently, this is a whole other level of lack of effort.

There was definitely something that happened just over a week ago. He was playing very well -- almost to Peak NBA Zion -- and then we played him in back-to-back games for the first time.

Part of me wonders if he tried to take it easy in the back-to-back to protect himself, and then he ended up messing up his rhythm.

But that's not a satisfactory explanation by any means. It certainly doesn't explain why, in thee last two games, he's looked slow and lackadaisical.

Almost peak Zion? His defense has been complete shite all season long. Nothing close to last December and that wasn't even peak Zion.

I'll definitely never understand how guys like Jose and Herb can play with a dude like Zion and not be in his face multiple times per game.

It was not a good night for really all the pelican players. But I think Zion’s play was devastating. This team is suppose to be built around him. Yet he has the
most turnovers, can’t make FT, doesn’t rebound, can’t run, even misses shots in the paint. I think it is time for some tough love; for example send him to Birmingham to get in shape.

I have always been a huge Zion fan. I don’t think the grass is always greener but his defensive effort really was so piss poor yesterday. I don’t know how his pride allows him to be a cone on defense like that. If I get blown by like that in pickup basketball I feel embarrassed for my teammates and try hard to not let it happen again, it seems like he has no shame to how many times he can get cooked on defense. He always bites on the initial pump fake and his ability to stay in the way of his defender is legitimately middle schoolesque

Listened to it. Not a Simmons fab but everything he said was completely on point. Not eveb a bashing but just general disappointment. Even NBA fans outside of New Orleans want to see this guy succeed.

He’s the most fun player to watch in the league. I just genuinely don’t understand how he can’t stay in shape. He’s a 23 year old kid who gets to spend his whole days in a multi million dollar basketball facility with access to private chefs and whatever meals he wants. It’s just incomprehensible. There’s no reason he shouldn’t have a six pack

You say he's the most fun player to watch while I say he's the most frustrating player to watch. We may never get to see him at his best because he is unable to get his body and conditioning right.

He can be just effective and dominant enough to never feel like he has to have the motivation needed to get him to peak physical shape.

Well thats part of the problem right? Hes being rewarded millions if dollars for basically being injured/out of shape. The contract that he got could have gone 2 ways- either he try to live up to the contract or hes like I been paid who gives a shite. It seems like we know which way he went. I cant blame Griffin totally but you wonder if giving him that contract was the right call.

Also since I’m venting right now, is anyone else annoyed as frick that Zion refuses to shoot that WIDE OPEN 3 point shot? His defender drops to under the goal and dares him to shoot. How bad does his shot have to be to not take the damn practice shot? With how inept our offense was last night, it was sending me into oblivion every time he would just attack the paint anyways. He didn’t even shoot 1, what the hell did he have to lose

I'd much rather we use him as a screener when that happens.

Play 10 feet off of Zion, then Zion runs a DHO and gives to CJ for a wide open 3, instead of Zion taking that 3.

For whatever reason, we never do that. Watch Draymond and GS, they live off of that when teams sag off of Draymond. Draymond is obviously a smart hooper and it's a smart play but it also doesn't take some crazy intelligence to recognize it, we just don't do it.

You’re not wrong but even Draymond has been shooting a lot more 3s this year. He just went like 4/8 the other night. I just can’t imagine what goes on in Z’s head to continuously pass up that practice shot 3. He should take that shite as disrespect and punish them for it but maybe he doesn’t have that dog in him.

I was really hoping that becoming father would've been the wake up call to get his shite together because it would awaken the realization inside him that he is playing for his kid.

I fear it will never click for him throughout the duration of contract here.

Honestly not like he’s actually doing anything to take care of the kid but give financial support. Really didn’t help Ja mature. But i get where you’re coming from. At some point you just call it and move on.

Sorry but the whole team looked that way after the 1st quarter…. I blame coaches too. A time out and get them refocused and what at stake…. Nobody was to into the game

2019 Zion would have easily slipped around LBJ before he's set and would barely touch him going around him. He's just too wide and loss some quickness to he able to do it at the level he used to be able to do it consistently.
