“Bama struggled against a ton of teams even with their starting QB. They get a pass for it but FSU doesn’t?

The SOS argument is horseshite. Bama struggled against 6-6 USF, 7-5 Aggy, 4-8 Ark, 6-6 Aub.”

This is a great post and I’ll add that winning by two scores in the swamp and again by about that same margin against a top 15 Louisville team at a neutral site is not my idea of struggling. Those are very good results to close the 2023 season

In 2017 the snub multiple conference champs and let both UGA and Bama in despite Bama not even making it to Atlanta. Bama won the whole thing that year.

Ohio ST had the much better resume compared to Penn ST.

You mean the multiple two loss champions and the 11-1 Bama? Totally a tough decision there lol. That’s just dumb.

Alabama has a loss. to the only team with a pulse they played OOC.

I don't know why THAT part gets left out.
Because the team that beat them, Texas, also got in.

For the record, I think if UGA wins, it's the 4 undefeated teams: UGA, Michigan, Washington, Fla State.

The committee felt compelled to put an SEC team in, since it's the dominant conference in CFB. Bama bias plays a part in that, but it's SEC bias more than anything. That's why UGA was #1, they hadn't looked it this year.
The real problem was that if they put 12-1 Bama in, they HAD to put 12-1 Texas in ahead of them, because that was a decisive win on Bama's home field.

Fla State's QB going down was the easy out. If he hadn't, they probably dump Washington, because they haven't won decisively outside of OOC creampuffs.
They're afraid of challenging the Big 10 powers, so Michigan/Ohio State would have been safe.

To me, the actual fairest 4 would be the 3 undefeated P5 champs, and Texas since they won head to head over Bama, but things were never going to be "fair", it was just a matter of things working out to provide cover.

Bama made the play

This reflects back to none other than LSU's spectacular 2019 season, arguably one of the best in the history of college football.

If LSU had failed to recover the onside kick attempts by Alabama, Texas and Auburn in the closing moments of those three games, the Tigers could have enjoyed the fun 'n sun of Tampa in the Outback instead of celebrating a national title in New Orleans.

Usually the outcome of any successful football season includes one or two plays which if had gone the other way would have shown the world a good, but not great season. McClendon had a couple such seasons back in the 1960s.

Georgia got the benefit of the eye test and last year’s championship. Their schedule was not difficult at all so was Georgia really deserving of the #1 rank?

The eye test that we see fail miserably almost every weekend during the season. There’s a reason most of the experts are not much better than 50% predicting games. The games are won on the field and that should matter

What does back to back championships have to do with it? In an earlier post you stated Georgia didn’t play anyone this season. You’re using contradictory arguments

Every season comes down to a few big plays and who makes them. Bama made the play. Had they not, they would be out and UGA, OSU, or FSU would be in. But they DID make the play so they are in.

Yeah but….FSU made all their plays too

And that’s why the committee had to also put Texas in over undefeated FSU. They couldn’t rationalize putting Alabama in and leaving Texas out

2nd string QB with a month to prepare and a very good defense and an undefeated record had just as much a chance At beating Michigan as an AL team that barely beat Auburn who got truck rolled by NM St. All of this is subjective opinion.

True!
That spot should have gone to Florida St.

Not to mention holding on to Auburn's defensive line for dear life to survive that game.

Against teams with a combined W-L record of 77-79.

Who then handled UGA in it's conference title game.

Opponents'W-L record:

FSU: 77-79
Texas: 90-67
Bama: 98-61

There's subjective for you.

Thanks, Auburn.
