I got $52 Venmo’s to me late one night from a business account with the notation “Joe’s beer money” or whoever the name was. It was a business that would make me think it was a local business. A few minutes later, I got a phone call but didn’t answer and they left a voicemail. The message was a drunk-sounding guy with a buddy in the background begging for his money back because it was all the money he had. I didn’t reply or do anything.
I didn’t do anything and expected Venmo to claw it back but they never did.

You get a message saying that someone sent you money by accident and asks for you to send it back. When you send it back the money that you received doesn't clear, and the transaction is cancelled. You are then out the money that you sent back. At least this is how a lot of scams work with bad checks or pending wires. Don't know if it would work with venmo, but it's what I would be looking for.

I did this with paypal. Sent $200 to the wrong guy. Wrong guy refunded my money that day. I ended up sending him $10 for his help. There are still good people out there.

Jesus man. People like you are why there are so many scammers. Making it easy for them. If you don’t have a Venmo, nobody could possibly send any money to your venmo. It’s a scam. Disregard.
