Staying with The Go-Gos... the much rawer, Stiff single version of We Got the Beat
Everyone knows the much more polished version off the Beauty and the Beat record that became a hit for them..

I just learned about Holiday Road, too, after years of watching Vacation and listening to Fleetwood Mac.
What’s funny is that the moment you learn this, Buckingham’s style is so glaringly obvious in the entire song, vocals and guitar.

The original version of Going Down to Liverpool from '82 by The Waves.. sung by Kimberley Rew..
In '85, after they changed their name to Katrina and the Waves... It was re-recorded (with Katrina singing) on the Walking on Sunshine record.. I believe that same year the Bangles also covered it on their debut...

The way I was introduced to Green Day's Welcome to Paradise (off of Kerplunk)
Most people probably came to know it when it was released (re-recorded) as the second single off of Dookie

I love the original version of the Replacement's Can't Hardly Wait that was recorded during the Tim sessions...
For the official version on Please to Meet Me... the lyrics were re-worked, it was polished up and the horns were added... this is what became the minor hit for them...

I just found out a few days ago the Poor Poor Pitiful Me was written by and originally recorded by Warren Zevon.

EVERYONE knows the Soft Cell version of this song, but few know that it's actually a cover from the 60's.

"Cum on feel the noise" was not a Quiet Riot song. A band called Slade did it first.
Youtube
"Always Something There to Remind Me."
It was written in 1964 for Dionne Warwick but was first recorded by Lou Johnson. Sandie Shaw did another recording the same year and took it to #1 in the UK. Naked Eyes did their cover in 1983.
"Achy Breaky Heart" was not Billy Ray Cyrus's original. It was first recorded by The Marcy Brothers.
