More amazing is the amount of posts on this site that say they were overrated or just a boy band
Those are mainly edgy Millennials.
It's more that this site skews disproportionately to heavy metal thudders, & those types were never very enthusiastic toward the Beatles

I'm a huge metal head and consider the Beatles to be the best (and also foundational for metal).

My Dad gave me this book years ago and it’s great. Sort of covers not only their music but the social impact etc. really good book.

Shout: The Beatles in Their Generation

Yep, that's an essential one.

what John meant by that was that it was the heaviest music for its time and new...sounds nothing like what we call heavy metal today of course

Even that isn't true. "You Really Got Me" & "I Can't Explain" are heavier.

Here is a much heavier song from 1958.

It (Paul's leadership) started after the Rishikesh trip when they discovered Brian had died. They may have been growing apart a bit during the prior recordings of Revolver and Pepper, but John was still running the show. He was the leader.

Even in examining The White Album, it was still quite heavily John influenced. That's according to George Martin during a later interview. They all contributed but he certainly had the best material on the album anyway.

Paul controlled Pepper, Abbey Road and the Let it Be sessions.

Peter Jackson made mention of how he had noticed that they were very fragmented during the early filming of Let it Be under Paul's heavy handed approach. And the sessions didn't really didn't take off until Paul backed off and John and Ringo coaxed George back into returning to finish the sessions off.

You can actually notice this in Peter Jackson's "Get Back" at the end of disc 2 and the beginning of disc 3. ...check out the "Flower Pot Recording". It's an interesting dynamic.

Seriously - 4 punks from fricking LIVERPOOL!
Listening to US R&B records and perfecting parroting that genre until they correctly figured out they had to write their own songs to make it big.

They loved them some NOLA music.

Satisfaction, 19th Nervous Breakdown, and The Last Time trumped all of them.

I don't think "Satisfaction" had been released when "TTR" came out

"YRGM" is a heavier overall sound anyway.

No one who thinks Geddy Lee can sing has the right to criticize someone else's mental processes

This is a got damned Beatles thread. Keep that Rush/Geddy Lee shite out of your dirty whore mouth, Kafka. I will be performing You Can't Do That Saturday night in my slow bluesey way at some venue somewhere in America.

RIP John. Hard to believe he's been gone 43 years tomorrow night.
