Wazzu instituting a rule to make their in state rival ineligible for the conference championship because they’re leaving the conference is the kind of spiteful pettiness I get out of bed every day for

A lot of conference money headed to Oregon St and Washington St...well deserved and frick the other schools for trying to hang onto every penny while fleeing the conference.

Good post. I agree.

I think I heard they will control all revenues I don’t know when that starts.

This is my understanding as well. Which means that when all of the revenue from the bowls comes in this year, they can chose how to distribute. Also basketball tournaments and remaining dollars on TV contracts. It also means any media rights for historical things from the PAC/10/12 remain and controlled by the board.
Clearly if they deviate from what was already agreed to (I.e. they change the by-laws) they could get sued, but it will be an interesting legal discussion.

Buckeye Backers Conference would be a fun basketball conference too.

I don't think the ink is dry on that deal...plus, that was before this ruling came down. Now that Oregon St and Washington St have the power to expand the conference, it could very easily entice Cal and Stanford to stay. And lets be honest, the ACC is next up on the conference raiding list...so its not like the ACC is exactly solid footing. Nothing screams ACC like California and Stanford. I would think this decision would make them reconsider staying in the PAC. That's why this is such a BIG decision by the judge.

Feels like a missed opportunity if we don’t rename the conference 2Pac

Obviously this is at the heart of the dispute, but can OSU/WSU essentially take this years revenue that would have gone to all of the members and split it by 2 with this ruling?

Sure this will be appealed

It can be appealed but the actions of the other teams between USC and UCLA announcing they were leaving then Colorado et all doing so is consistent with this ruling.

The second a school announced they were leaving, they forfeited their voting rights. This is just taking it to the logical extension of that precedent.

And accomplish what? They aren’t going to keep their auto-bid to the CFP, they would just be a glorified G5 conference anyway.

There are no auto bids.

It's currently the top 6 ranked conference champions and 6 at large, likely to soon become the top 5 ranked champions and 7 at large.

Depends on what the rules are with regards to departing conference members.

Most conferences state that members leaving forfeit either a percentage or all of their TV money between announcement and leaving.

If Pac rules state that the money goes in the conference kitty if the teams leave, it means that those two get shares and the conference gets a share. And they control what the conference can spend money on.

I wouldn't be surprised if they just change it to the top 12 ranked teams. I know that's what Sanky was angling for initially, but with the demise of the Pac-12 and the top end of the Big 12 I could see it becoming a reality.

ESPN

quote:

"It has always been our view that the future of the Pac-12 should be determined by the remaining members, not by those schools that are leaving the conference,"

quote:

"We have always been committed to protecting the best interests of the conference, our student-athletes, coaches and fans. Today's news allows Washington State University and Oregon State University to start that process as the controlling members of the Pac-12 Conference Board."

These quotes from the article above, sound clear to me, that Oregon St, Washington St and the PAC will move forward as a conference. The MWC should be VERY VERY nervous with this decision!!!

The MWC exit fee is too high for that conference to split up.

I hope not. Give the G5 a chance to send their top ranked champ. Its not fair to put in 9-3 teams that were the 3rd or 4th best team in their own conference and leave out a 12-1 G5 champ.

You have the “they should’ve scheduled tougher teams OoC” argument, but those tougher opponents rarely would agree to a home-and-home with a G5 school, so they’re always at a disadvantage if they try to schedule high profile games OoC since it’ll almost always be road games with no return game

If 10 members leave the MWC for the PAC, they could just vote to dissolve the conference and there would be no exit fee.

They are more than welcome if they are ranked in the top 12. I see no reason to force them into a position, but I am okay with sending them if they are really worthy of a top 12 position. Which means, essentially, if they are undefeated they can be in. If they lose a game, they are out. I think that's pretty fair for the level of competition that most of them play against.

What I have heard is a “reverse merger” to where the MWC effectively absorbs Oregon State and Wazzu but they take on the PAC name and history.
