quote:It's astonishing really. Like you said, the youth weekend was loaded, then it wasn't. There are some very concentrated flocks of them, particularly back by the ICW. I'm smack in the middle and its all dogs. Zero ringers killed by me or others near me. But have several confirmed reports of them killed on the Mandalay and west near the Antill. They'll show up in a couple weeks when the full moon hits. Right as the first split winds down
Hunted Bayou Black. Limits Saturday. Near limits Sunday. Was surprised by the lack of ringnecks. Youth/Veterans, we literally had thousands. Hardly saw any this weekend. Killed mostly teal and whistlers, with a couple grays and redhead mixed in.

Significant reduction in teal where I am also. We killed 3 all weekend and only seeing singles, doubles, and a couple small flocks here and there. No big groups like last weekend either. But no doubt there are still plenty BW left in other areas of Bayou Black

I agree. Very very strange. Usually when the ringers arrive at our place, they stay until they eat all the vegetation. They were here earlier than usual and then left. Can confirm the huge populations just west of Antil. They are still there. For some reason that areas has them early every season. Did see more grays and wigeon than usual all weekend. We also have an unusually large amount of coot for this early, which makes it difficult for the few birds we have. Not alot if blue wings either, which we another odd situation. Ponds look great. Ducks will eventually show.
