After watching the trailer for the final episode, I thought no way can they wrap this series up concisely, but they surely delivered. I’m listening to the final podcast as well! Bravo to everyone involved.

I’m going to watch that Bloody Hundredth doc tonight.

Prior to episode 8, it seemed pretty obvious given how she was constantly appearing and disappearing.

Being kind of ignorant to what she actually did and how old she was during WW2, I thought they might have been trying to sneak in a Queen Elizabeth appearance until they started banging

This last episode was very tight and concise.

They wrapped that up well. It fell short of Band of Brothers, but hell, what show doesn’t. It ended up being an excellent series.

My main gripe to close out, was Crosby’s affair never being acknowledged. I’m pretty sure it was fictitious and manufactured for the show. But he went home to a wife and son and his affair was never acknowledged at all. Really rubbed me the wrong way, especially if created for the show that they did him that way.

It happened. He wrote about it in his book that he wrote after his wife died. I haven’t read it yet…just picked it up from Google searches. I believe he never really knew what she did or what happened to her. I saw on Reddit she had a different name in real life and maybe there is more info about her now?

It sounds like those kind of war affairs were common on both sides of the ocean. It’s easy to find European women when a couple million of their best options have been killed.

Now that all episodes are out I’m going to start it up this weekend. Looking to avoid spoilers, but what’s the boards general consensus on the show, worth a damn? Does it live up to BoB & The Pacific, or at least in the same ballpark?

These were the same German citizens who smelled burnt flesh coming from the crematoriums yet still denied they knew what was happening. Frick em. They had it coming.

Serious question: what did you want them to do??? Post about it on Twitter?

Absolutely worth watching. I loved all three of them.

Thought it started a lot slower than BoB and the Pacific, but it picks up big time with a good finish.

How about opening your eyes to what your fascist government is doing and spreading the word that your nation is participating in genocide. Sophie Scholl and the white rose did that. Some of those members fought on the Eastern front, came back, and realized they were the bad guys.
I don’t think X was active in the ‘40s.

I don't understand why it was only 9 episodes. There should've been a training episode like BOB had because in Crosby's book the 100th was an absolute shite show before they were finally allowed to deploy.

Not being familiar with fighter capabilities, I found it strange that that fighter would just strafe a POW camp trying to get a guard tower or two.

That same Fascist government would send you and your family to the concentration camps if they crossed the government. Heck, your own kids would turn you in.

I’m well aware of that. Bonhoeffer was executed for opposing Hitler’s ideologies. It was a monumental risk. Some chose it while the majority didn’t. There are consequences to playing along with the Nazis. If a B-17 bomb falls on a Kraut house and a five year old girl dies. Tough luck. This is total war and you’re in a war zone.

Don’t forget, German civilians were cheering and waving Nazi flags in ‘41 during Barbarossa while the SS was burning, raping, looting, and murdering civilians throughout. You reap what you sow.

Yeah, that seemed rather questionable.

Of course it was a Red Tail as well.

Dan Carlin’s Ostfront captures the dread of the reckoning the German citizens were facing in early 1945. They knew what happened on eastern front. They knew the Soviets were coming and they were out for revenge.

I haven’t listened to Ghost of the Ostfront in a while. That’s a good one. Yep, even concentration camp survivors tried to make themselves look ugly so they wouldn’t get raped by the Red Army.

Saw somewhere else that they ran over budget by quite a bit, the series was supposed to be 10 episodes just like BoB and the Pacific. But they had the cut down on episode number and cram a lot into them.

Which is a shame as I think another episode or two, plus removing some of the side storylines like Crosby’s spy friend/love interest would’ve allowed them to more fully develop the stories they already had going and allow us to connect with the main characters better.

They end one of the episodes with Rosie Rosenthal being told the “bombers are gonna be the bait” and then proceeded to show exactly zero missions of that. D-Day is over in 1 minute of screen time. Lots of potential that they didn’t capitalize on.

All in all, BoB remains the best, and I’d put the Pacific over this as well. MotA isn’t a bad series, it’s still good, there just a lot holding it back from being great. Still a solid series I’d tell any WWII history fan to check out.
