Plaquemines Parish oyster companies and the Earth Island Institute environmental group say they’ll sue to stop the planned Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion, one of the state’s most ambitious and expensive coastal restoration projects.

In a notice of intent to sue, the group on Tuesday alleged that the diversion violates the Endangered Species Act and is likely to harm several imperiled marine animals.

The project “will have serious adverse consequences for several listed species, including the threatened piping plover, red knot, loggerhead sea turtle, and green sea turtle, as well as the endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtle,” the NOI says.

Don’t feel bad for the oyster fishermen at all. They all want to act like they’re dirt poor and the diversion is going to kill off all their business when in reality they all made 10’s of millions off the oil spill and robbed BP blind.

The state should not renew a single oyster lease. Problem solved.

None of them would know a red knot from a piping plover

And both of the above will benefit from a sediment diversion

They are pressing the right buttons. Coastal birds and sea turtles will bring big time conservation $$$ in to the fight.

3 billion $, and by 20fkn70, 52 years, yeah that right 52 years, we’ll see an area restored approx 12x8 miles. For reference NOLA Iis approx 19x13 square miles. That means in 52 year, we hope to create a marshland about 40% the size of NOLA, and only one the SW side of NOLA and west of the Mississippi River,,,,this will do nothing SE, and E of NOLA,,,,,IMO this a gigantic waste of money that will take too long to make to little of a difference.
