So what I’m hearing is I can take that beach house off your hands at a discounted rate? Better get out before it falls too far.

Unbelievable that the buildings looked nice before you moved but now the paint on buildings has weathered 10 years.

You are easily in the top 5 shittiest posters on the site.

been going to destin for a while every year. we do not go to the harbor area at all except to catch charter boat. we time our entry and exit to avoid as much traffic as possible. destin has gotten worse in my opinion each year. crowded, traffic, etc. but we go on july 4 each year and enjoy it. we stay on 30a sometimes. it is crowded as well. less food and grocery options. the key is getting in and out at the best possible times. we have 5 kids and 13 grands with in laws that go. we beach and play golf. prices have gotten stupid for rentals and golf. no denying that. coming from dfw we stay in mobile and have a great time, usually 2 or 3 days, hit dauphin street and play golf, leave early sat morning to destin. we play golf sat morning leaving, ladies and kids go to the wharf, we drive back to mobile and relax and play golf and head home a couple of days later. we mix in the return by going to jackson and staying at the refuge and playing golf there. the sheraton is good enough for the kids with the pool and lazy river.

Good on you that you all make it work and enjoy. I don't understand how anyone is able to make it happen that way though for the 4th of July in any beach town.

That part of Florida has never been the nicest part. Real Florida doesn't start until east of and south of Tallahassee.

pick and choose at the right times. i do it because i enjoy my kids and their spouses and grandkids. playing golf, drinking beer, cooking out, etc. i would rather beach somewhere else, but i am outvoted for now. jsx also makes it easy if needed.

One of the greatest grifts of all mankind has been to charade millions into thinking sand on salty water makes for a legitimate beach.

The crowd at Destin has definitely changed. Resembles Gatlinburg.

We used to love Harbor Docks sushi. Went last spring and it was meh. The building was in terrible condition as well.

There was a little resurgence around 2007 or so right after emerald grand opened. I remember commanders palace, Pat O’Briens and Camellia Grill were all there at one point but they’ve been long gone for years now.

This is totally bullshite. I just drove through there on the way home and the place looks as it did 5 years ago. The medians are landscaped with what are obviously new plantings. It looks clean. I see no obvious decay.

That’s my point.. all the buildings are in bad shape like harbor docks.

They usually paint to freshen up during the off-season each year and you can clearly see that has not happened.

Yup.. I’m a shitty poster for stating the fact that destin is going downhill. Especially coming from people who have visited once or twice / year. The people with the real insights about the place.

And October is usually a wonderful time in destin because the crowds do thin out but I don’t ever remember seeing a lot of stores close at 6:00 and 7:00 on a Thursday evening. That’s insane to me.

Even the track looked trashy and they are usually good about freshing the place up every year.

How the hell does a little Caesar and Waffle House close? I counted 8 restaurants shut down lol

The place is struggling if you ask me and this was the worst year ever for charter boats and pontoon rentals. I do know a few boat captains and business owners and they have all told me that this year has been the worst since the oil spill

I agree with you. I've been to Destin once and was underwhelmed. I have zero desire to go back.

I think Destin's proximity to "not so nice" areas makes it convenient for some trashy visitors.
