The Dakotas are closer to Louisiana. More directly north

I haven’t checked rent prices, but Iowa is pretty nice. We had one week of really hot weather, then the rest of the summer was mid to upper 80s and low 90s.

I'm in Cloudcroft NM. Been here for the past few weeks and staying for a few more. elevation above 8,500. Lows upper 40's to lower 50's highs generally below 80.
Its sort of touristy on weekends but not bad.

We like to go up into the Blue Ridge Mountains. Towns like Boone and Banner Elk. The high temp tomorrow is predicted to be 67° and 91° here.

I lived in Denver for a year. Afternoons can be toasty but it drops substantially come 5-530. Mornings are awesome to run or bike. Smaller towns west of Denver (up in the Rocky Mountains) that would be good.

My dad's most of the way up sugar mountain, 61 and 49 for them tomorrow. That extra 1000 feet makes a difference. That 1000 feet is also why they're back in FL by Nov 1.

We have a place in Western NC just for this reason. Tons of Louisiana ex-pats summer in the mountains (April - Nov) and winter in LA

a friend's dad used to summer in montana and winter in south la. he said he had to start a fire in the stove every morning in summer, but it warmed up quickly. was never hot.

The great thing about Wisconsin or southern Minnesota is they are drivable from Louisiana in a (very long) day. Also less so in Minn, but in southern/central/western Wisconsin there a lot of small cities where you can shop and do things, and you are only a few hours drive from multiple major airports (Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago) if you need to fly.

To what, exactly? Most of Illinois is a flat (hot in the summer) wasteland. Especially the part between Chicago and the Mississippi heading west.
