Literal Pirates Stealing Ships in California
quote:
The pirates seen ransacking boats are taking advantage of slow response times from police.
Young tells CBS News that he immediately called the police but was told that without a police report, authorities couldn’t do anything. Police reportedly never showed and it wasn’t until the insurance company called them that the boat was recovered. Young says that by then, it was too late.
"What they did to the boat was just unbelievable," Young claims. "Normally, you'd expect them to take the dinghy and your liquor and stuff like that. But they took the fishing poles. They took the fighting chairs; they took the barbecue pits. And everything they didn't take, they destroyed."
GPS equipment was also stolen, alongside bilge pumps and engine pumps. The outlet also reports that three handguns, complete with ammunition, were also taken from Young’s ship. The insurance company reportedly said that the boat was a total loss.
Young was not the only reported victim of pirates that week either. Two other large boats were stolen. Michael West, who lives aboard a ship docked in Oakland, told CBS News that the area has been turned into a “Wild West.”

Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred years too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late
Seriously, though. We really shouldn't use the term "pirate" as it might be offensive. Please call them Privateers.

Sadly we do not have real pirates anymore!
Pirates have existed throughout history and are the first corporation, however they mutated over time just as corporations have.
Pirates = everybody got a share, the Captain got a double share
Corporations = lots of managers keeping all the booty for themselves. To heck with investors, workers, communities, etc. Imagine ig the CEO of Ford got 2x what a person on the line made.
Pirates = VERY Democratic. Call could be made to replace the Captain at any time and put to a vote by all pirates. You enter port, you vote in the trading Captain. You exit a port, you vote in the navigation Captain. You engage opposition, you vote in the fighting Captain.
Corporations = now owned by Private Equity and Mutual Funds and controlled by temporary upper management who want to loot as much as they can.

I am aware, they are not original pirates, they are modern warlord pirates.
Hence, not "real" pirates in how they operate.

Yep and they seem to have a business plan and executable strategy that works most of the time.
Profitable enterprise....surprised Blackrock has not attempted a "hostile takeover"

Does calling them pirates give the victims more self defense rights? Like you can kill pirates in the act of pirating, but not looters looting.
