Do you make toast in a toaster or in the oven?

For me it's oven only.

Put a few pats of butter on it and stick it under the broiler for a couple of minutes - comes out with a toasted top with the butter melted into the bread and a soft chewy underside.

Perfection.

Oven.

Can't see a reason to buy a toaster any longer.

Oven will give a better product but I would rather not wait for it to heat up, vs a toaster.

The answer though is to use a toaster oven / air fryer, etc which will toast it pretty fast and allow you to put butter on it during the toast.

I use the toaster for all kinds of stuff. Make a sandwich lay toaster on side and let it go. Works for pizza too.
I use a toaster oven too, but the speed of a toaster is great.

Toaster oven.

Honestly, that's probably my most utilized appliance.

I have a nice toaster oven that I have used for years for toast and a lot of other things. But I recently got a cheap toaster to put next to it, it takes about half the time and makes toastier toast.

I turn the toaster/oven on broil, but the bread in the toaster, as soon as it pops up I put the cheese on one slice, put it in the TO and make my sandwich on the other, by the time I make the sandwich the cheese is melted. Simple, I just saved 43 seconds and made toastier toast.

I'm a bit manic about efficiency.

What kind of nutjob is heating up a big oven for toast? I’ve heard it all now.

You do realize you don't need to preheat the oven to use the broiler. Turn it on and it is cooking.

Toaster. It's not rocket science and I'm not warming up my kitchen to toast a few slices of bread in an oven.

Toaster does a fine job once it's set to your preference for how much you want the bread toasted.

Toaster oven here. Melts my butter into the bread. Black iron skillet works well also…

Toaster= toast
Oven= baked bread slices

It's not the same result.

Toasters are designed to cook the exterior of the bread slice with adjacent heating elements on both sides of the bread that evenly distribute radiated heat that toasts the outside of the bread, leaving essential moisture inside.

Ovens bake the bread slice with a distant heating element that convects heat around the bread causing it to dry out as it cooks. This is not preferred.

Also, toasters are quicker. By the time you wait for the oven heat up, I'll already be done eating my toast.

Speaking of toast, can anyone explain to me why the Waffle House toast taste better than anything I can come up with in my kitchen? Their toast is my favorite thing on the menu

sigh.. I'm sorry, I erroneously assumed that anyone who posts on the food board must know how to use the broiler setting in their oven.

You butter the toast and put it on a cookie sheet. Move one of the racks in your oven to the slats that are nearest the top of the oven, which will be at most a couple of inches below the broiler element. Put the cookie sheet on the top rack. If you have a decent oven your toast will be ready in about 90 seconds.

Hell, your OP said use the broiler.

Makes me think these people are lacking in their kitchen knowledge of the broiler

I use a cast iron griddle.
Butter one side. Flip as needed to desired toast...
