I hung out with him one night at Snake & Jakes and Johnny Whites until 7 AM back in 1990. The last time I saw him is when he surprised everyone at the Saenger Theatre for his musical debut a few years ago. Really down to earth gentleman who will be missed by tens of millions of people across the world.

Jimmy, some of it's magic, some of it's tragic
But I had a good life all the way

What a legend. Way too young

Not too many people from the deep deep south make it so big. That’s why he was such a legend down here. People may hate on him for his politics or campy lyrics but those people have little to no joy in their life.

Plus his perfect margarita is pretty good.

Jimmy didn’t fit a mold that station execs want for more airplay. But it’s also how he built a beach music empire… one of a kind.

Got to see him about 15 years ago and finally “got it” about parrotheads with the beach party outside the stadium, and then inside when the show started.

Sad news and surprising. RIP Jimmy here at the end of summer.

My dad used to play his Jimmy Buffett cds every year on vacation 20-25 years ago. I thought Jimmy Buffett was an old man back then when he was in his early 50s. Amazing how the passage of time changes your perspective on age.

Take, for example, when you go to the movies these days, you know
They try to sell you this jumbo drink
Eight extra ounces of watered-down cherry coke for an extra 25 cents
I don't want it
I don't want that much organization in my life
I don't want other people thinking for me

I want my Junior Mints, where did the Junior Mints go in the movies
I don't want a 12 pound Nestle's crunch for 25 dollars
I want Junior Mints
We need more fruitcakes in this world and less bakers
We need people that care
I'm mad as hell and I don't want to take it anymore

I once had a battalion commander who was a huge Parrothead. He had a Parrot stenciled on every vehicle in the battalion and his callsign was “Pirate 6”.

His music was simple and terrible. But he did make a ton of a beach bum genre. So congrats.

Yep. I think that’s true for most of us. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who didn’t like Jimmy Buffet.

Well this is sad. I had not heard anything about declining health recently. What a guy. I’ll always be thankful for having neighbors from Mobile my freshman year at Bama. They’re the ones who go me into his music and it’s still heavy in the rotation to this day.
