They didn't tell inform the students that they could only buy one package until after they had bought both. Even still they should have controls to prevent them from buying both if they can only get one.
You’re saying there was literally nothing telling the students they could pick 1 of the 2 packages? I find this a little hard to believe considering freshman had to do the same thing when I was at LSU a decade ago. It’s not exactly a new deal.
It sounds like the issue was that someone fricked up the checkout system and allowed them to checkout with both packages selected.
Not that it really makes a difference. It’s a frickup either way. Hopefully they figure out a solution.

Damn, in my 02-05 years it was a lottery for freshman, but if picked we got the whole season for like $48 with a $2 fee to make it an even $50. 04-05 might have been higher after the championship but not by much. $100 maybe?
I was there around the same time. I remember being ecstatic I won the freshmen lottery. And yea it was like $50 for the whole season. Then if you had a guest (non-student) you could get another student’s ticket and your guest could pay like a $25 upgrade to come in with you.
Great times!

Why do they make this shite so hard for students.
1.Block off the sections
2.First come first serve every game up to a certain amount of students
3. Scan student id for fire marshal requirements so to not over fill the sections and to bill the student’s account.
The student section doesn’t need designated seats. They’re students. They stand and move around the whole damn game

Just do a lottery or give season tickets to students based off GPA for each designated year of students.
The rest can try again the next year, or buy tickets like the rest of the fans.
Seems like a simple solution to the amount of enrollment vs SS capacity.

Well I am not shocked. The lsusports website is an interesting maze to maneuver thru. While you can get things purchased / accomplished it is clunky.

If students have designated seating now, this is the first time I’m hearing it. There are certain areas designated to groups of students (e.g. Greek life, the med school, etc.) but that’s about it AFAIK.
There are legitimate reasons to handle student tickets the way they do:
1. By limiting the games freshmen can go to, you allow upperclassmen to go to all of the games.
2. Making them buy a package disincentivizes people from only showing up for 1-2 big games. Yes, it still happens. But you would presumably have even more people who only show up for Bama if all they needed were student IDs. Which kind of screws the folks who do show up every week.
3. Students already have to get there early as shite to wait in line if they want to sit with their friends. IMO, it’s a huge part of why they often leave early. If there was a risk of not even being able to get in, you’d see students lined up all damn day.
If I were still a student, I’d rather have to buy a package than have to be in line 4 hours before kickoff.

The last couple years its been the students carrying death valley. The old heads the ones leaving early.

In 1972-76 I don’t remember paying anything. Just had to show ID at the gate. But I’m so old I barely remember being in college.

All of this. The only issue seems to be that they "supposedly" didn't communicate that freshmen could only purchase one package. Regardless, controls should have been in place to only allow one package to be purchased.

They don’t get tickets to all the home games like we used to?
That must suck balls if this is the case.

Students and parents are losing their minds
Not sure why any rational parent should be losing their minds. Your kid's in college now, it's time to let them begin to solve their own problems, especially when it comes to football tickets.

They should just let them buy half game tickets. You can buy 1st half or 2nd half tix. Bring in some freesh blood at half time when most of the kids are leaving by then anyway.
This isn't a bad idea actually although it'd be hard to police. How would they know I left at halftime? But something like this should be considered to keep people there.

The good old days (1966-1970) where your student ID got you into games (football, basketball, etc.) I think there was $15 added to your tuition bill.

The lottery existed back then? I was a freshman in '02, and I don't remember me or any of my buddies having to do that.
I recall hopping online first thing in the morning on the day for freshmen, my dad handing me his credit card, and getting them right away.

They are losing their minds bc it’s Dad’s credit card getting charged and not refunded.
Wouldn’t you be pissed if a store charged your card, then wouldn’t let you leave with the merchandise?
LSU must have the dumbest IT people on the planet to not program an “only pick one option” allotment prior to checkout.

Expand the student section. Why is this so hard? Students of the university should take precedence over T-shirt fans and grumpy old alum.

At 9AM many students were in class so parents were trying to do the ticket purchase for their kids. Probably would have been better to release the tickets in the evening when no classes were going on.

You gotta do it like the trampoline parks. Purple wristbands have to leave at half time, gold wristbands can come in at half.
1st half tix would be in demand for the rent-a-win games, and 2nd half tix would be more in demand for the big games.
Its genius.

That will never happen… T-shirt fans and alums fund the program.
