What does that look like? Verbal offers from a D1? I just assumed you’d use you lacrosse skills to bolster your resume…say if you weren’t a Duke quality student but played lacrosse very well it could help get you in.

Plus a hedge fund owns it.....and from what I am told, aside from the apparel companies, pro agents are heavily involved in funding the place .

I went there when Michigan had their spring game there (really it was a practice) in Harbaugh's first year. That place is insane. I don't get it. Obviously, they don't have the same attendance numbers as most colleges, but the facilities are better.

Every big swinging dick around the world sends their kids there to play sports. They are like Harvard/Yale type money donors and alumnus.
A friend of ours daughter plays tennis there and she became friends with teammates who families are Uber wealthy. One from Russia. She has been on yacht after yacht after yacht through invitations to join them during school breaks.

My brother in law played for Birmingham (UK) for 11 years and was in Irish National team for World Cup.
About 10 years ago he took a job coaching soccer at IMG. They love Florida and spent 6 months a year there anyway.
They paid him very well. He decided to leave because of the unpredictable schedules and whims of wealthy families. If the flew in their coach was expected to meet the family at the airport. Final straw for him was a call after 7pm to head to the airport to meet a private jet and meet family coming in as they were considering IMG. He turned in notice a week later.
It’s high pressure there. He didn’t need the money or the pressure, just enjoys the sport and teaching. The money passing through IMG is off the charts.

I spent an entire summer there when it was still known as Bollitieris because tennis was still their biggest producer.
They money there is insane yes, but the amount of drugs was insane also. I was 13 and it was kinda terrifying for me actually. 12 and 13 year olds doing hard drugs was something I just wasn’t used to seeing or being a part of.

National advertising plus you now get an early relationship built with premier athletes in America’s premier sports, so from an agents’ perspective it does make sense.

My shop is one mile fro IMG. Ive been there a few times on Friday night for games. It has some major high end sub divisions right next to it that house the familys of some of the students there. Ones that come from out of the area.
They have a full 18 hole golf course just for the high school students. It is a crazy place
If I remember well, it sold in the spring for 1.3 billion...

My parents lived in one of the El Conquistador neighborhoods before moving to a retirement home.
A few years ago, we almost stayed in a VRBO that was within the IMG complex.
I remember when Bollettieri's Tennis Academy was off 75th street (near 9th Ave IIRC?).
I seem to remember that in the early days, there was a connection with the tennis academy and St Stephen's Episcopal School....

Rich families pay the freight like every private school in the country that has "scholarship students" to produce decent sports teams.
I know a family that moved their family to Sarasota so their son could baseball. All because our high school coach couldn't recognize "that Kayden was going to play in MLB someday".
Postscript - Kayden didn't play D1 college or get drafted. But he got to play with teammates that did (just like he would have done at his former high school).

I would also imagine in the age of NIL, some of these kids can in fact pay tuition. Perhaps there is something in place like hey, we can get you $500k from sponsor but you have to pay full tuition. Kid still makes $400k and they get paid.

My wife and I tried for 3 years to buy a house in Legends Bay right on El Conquistador. Loved the neighborhood. We were waiting for one of them to come available and just never could get one. They were running at 799K-899K for a while and then they went up. Now they are 1.5-1.7.
I wish we would have pulled the trigger on the first one we looked at. It didnt have a pool or the master on the main so it was not exactly what we wanted and figured we would get another shot. We didnt.
They are blowing that area out with all those high end condos now. Plus that Aqua subdivision is just ridiculous. All that property around El Conquistador/ 75th street and Hwy 70 is about to be developed.
Glad we decided to pass not and went with Sarasota out by the interstate. The traffic in that area is going to be a huge mess. I am about to move my shop down toward Venice

very nice - my folks were on the land side of the pkwy but the waterfront subdivisions were just starting to go in. This was a bit before it was extended to 75th st.
Hate that the wetlands and mangroves are getting tore up...
all the good farmland - that blew into my parents pool lol.
