Hello, currently getting bids for a new sprinkler system. I previously had one but due to an addition I did to the home, I had to have a new sewer line run from the back of the house to the front and thus tore up everything I had in place(no practical way around it).

Anyway, my nextdoor neighbor and I have decided we both need a system and are trying to see if we can get a “combo deal” with an installer.

I already have the double check from previous system so that should help. I should have about 7-8 zones between the front and back.

Any idea what a good price would be? So far I’ve gotten $5200-8500 all in.

I am getting a system installed at my place right now and I dont see how adding in my neighbor would make it cheap or a 'combo deal'. I got an extra line put in by the water company and the rest of the project is through the landscaper.

The job doesnt necessarily get cheaper as it gets bigger. You just pay for more materials and labor. I guess the only way I can see a cheaper bill between us would be to share the line between our yards and have those sprinklers do both sides. Would me minimal savings though plus you would have one neighbor paying for the water

If someone is selling per zone then question their ability.

They should be pricing the whole system. Depending on the size of the yard you can runn1 zone or 5 zones and adequately cover the areas.

No one worth hiring is really going to give you a significant discount for combining two yards. If they are then they are overcharging somewhere.

Wait until Dec or Jan to do it. Too late for this season

I've gotten around $600 to $650 in Fort Worth.
Try CLP Services, based in Alvarado,Tx. They might service Dallas. I'm north Fort Worth by Eagle Mtn Lake and they did 8 zones for me in the back yard and installed new controller for the Front Yard and one for the back.
I have the Hunter Hydrawise X2 controller. Control it with your phone through wifi. I would highly recommend upgrading to it.
IIRC, I think did the 8 zones plus 2 new controllers for $4500. They were definitely cheaper than others I had looked at. They are on The Good Contractors List as well.

I did mine myself. Had an irrigation designer design the system for $250. Materials were $2600 for 14 zones. $300 in ditch witch rental. Probably another $150 in random pvc fittings from Home Depot. The labor quote was $7,000.

I’m out in the county so no permits are needed. The only buried line on my property is electrical and septic sprayers. The electrical was nowhere near my zones but I did find the septic sprayer line. Easy enough fix but that sucked.

If you’re even mildly competent with small machinery and have a decent back, it’s a job that can save you money. There is only a small learning curve learning how to hook everything up. Only point of advice is bury nothing until you can validate every zone works the way it’s designed.

Make sure you hire a licensed irrigation contractor. La Dept of Agriculture has a list on their website.
