Some elite kids re class up to be 18 or younger for their first draft class out of high school. You get devalued if you are 19 or older on draft day out of high school. I am guessing if you’re a younger junior in your next draft class year it’s an advantage also.

I’m sure he will have a healthy number and he should . I wouldn’t take under 3M . some things that will make the decision hard are that he has 2 mlb plus pitches already, he’s a highly projectable starter(first/second round money), very healthy and he’s not a draft eligible sophomore so he has to wait 3 more years. Pitchers want to be in the league early to get to arbitration. Also, It won’t be a great college draft class .
Too early and too many variables . Scouts know LSU commits are hard to get and it’s good leverage to have for the elite players wanting to get drafted out of high school or fall to school.
He can ride a bike to school from his house so I’m sure it will be a hard decision.

Owen Galt (Barbe HS - 2024) headed to UL. He can come off of the list.

Interesting, would mean we have nobody ranked outside the Top 500 on PG in the 2024 class any more. Dont believe we've ever had a class like that.
Galt was a bit more of a Mainieri-level recruit to me in that 5'9 155 lb frame. And before anyone says Milam I know he's also short and small but the kid was pretty dang highly ranked coming out.

You're right actually about Milam but I don't think Jay was in the mood to be dropping a fringe Top 100 overall player especially one that plays MIF which we sorely needed even if he didnt really fit his player mold.
Interesting when you look out at the 2024 and 2025 classes now there's really no kids built like Milam or Galt in them.

Losing Galt puts the 2025 roster at 62/40.
Given the expected draft impact on both the roster and the signing class, we're still low. There are enough draft prospects that if every one of them signed (they won't all get drafted and sign so this is outlandish) that we'd be at 29/40.
A podcast I recently listened to from Baseball America made mention that Curiel getting to campus isn't far fetched. Unlikely, but not out of the question.

I think Galt committed in 8th or 9th grade. He hasn’t had a ton of helium lately. I know ULL has Gunner Leger on staff now. He played at Barbe not long ago

Galt has the hands and glove to play in the SEC. The question was always going to be his bat. I guess the staff didn't feel as if he had progressed enough. I know Barbe is a powerhouse but Galt hit 7th and 8th last year. Hard to see that type of HS production getting into a Jay Johnson lineup.

Galt was also really just a preferred walk on. he was asked about a month ago to find another spot. I didnt want to say anything before the family said something.
great great fielder but I do not think he is LSU caliber player at the plate at this time. needs to gain lots of weight and strength

yep and he still had plenty of great offers after...i know both Oklahoma schools were interested, tech, ull and couple others.
he has a great great glove. but needs size and bat speed.

no i agree, may be, but kid can play. and its not that he doesnt work, he does very very very hard. its the nutrition part like so many that is lacking. these fricking kids refuse to eat

I think from the outside, a redshirt is seen by too many as a negative. But the adjustment to college is different for everyone.
I know people get tired of me citing Tennessee on how they do some things, but clearly it's worked for them, but they have a ton of guys who've come into the program and redshirted and been big contributors and drafted, etc.
A redshirt year can really help with the S&C side, the mental side, the pressure-free reps, whatever the case may be.

yep....take guidry for an example....do you think he could have used a redshirt to put on weight?
absolutely. i understand he was a contributor but dude is going to be a pitcher long term. he is currently like 6'2" (74") and around 180. Thats a coefficient of 2.43 (weight/height in inches) The minimum for a D1 pitcher should be 2.5 and optimal is atleast 2.75. the average in MLB is 2.81 and the better pitchers are closer to 2.9-2.95. So the avg. mlb pitcher at 6'2 outweighs
this is just an example of why a redshirt year is so useful.
problem is though with transfer portal kids and even coaches are not really into using it for some reason. I dont get it. kids are getting bad advice.
