It's gonna be a rude awakening when your kid gives zero fricks about sports, and hates them even more because you pushed him too hard.

I have been in education 22 years. Mostly high school and a lot of years coaching.
IMO, if your kid is born August-May you should start them so that they turn 18 during their senior year. If it’s a June-July birthday, I would lean toward starting them late than early and turn 18 just before their senior year starts.
I think fall birthdays are the best for high school students. Turning 18 during the fall semester of their senior year. They will be in the older half of the class but not significantly older anyone. This is also a big deal when it comes to getting a drivers license. You don’t want all your buddies driving sophomore year while you’re still hitching rides.
Having your kid start so that they turn 18 in October their senior year is the way to go here.
ETA: Geez, didn’t pay close enough attention to your post to realize you were discussing your kid turning 19 in October of their senior year. That’s too damn old. But turning 18 in October is perfect.

My daughter is 5 and she's starting kindergarten tomorrow. If you intentionally hold your unborn child back until he's 7 when he starts kindergarten you're already a terrible parent and your kid isn't born yet.

Start him ontime and invest the daycare money you would have spent waiting a year.
You will have more money than any returns on whatever dream of a career you think he will have.

Your kid won't be a stud athlete.
No need to hold him back a year.

That’s it. I’m scratching lsu off the list of schools he’ll consider and you’re to blame

wait, a lot of the time kids a year or 2 behind, struggle, especially down the road in middle or high school

By the time your son is 8, he'll be your daughter.
