Your wife will always be mad when she doesn’t get her way, just like every other woman alive.

I'd be happy to go to a family birthday without SO.

I don't see why you're making this such a big deal OP. Go help your friend until it's time to clean up and attend the party. Doing both isn't hard. Sack up Sally.

Yeah I don't understand why your friend can't get movers like a normal person

I also don't understand why you attending your SO's sibling's birthday party matters at all. Probably missed it, how old is the sister?

Just read the OP. Give your buddy $100 towards the cost of the movers and go with your girl. Done.

Real friends don’t ask friends to help them move

If he got a full price, cash offer then hire movers

Go to the party. Anyone old enough to be buying a house should be hiring movers

Tell him to get the title company to drag a little. Should be no problem to make it so you can do both.

I get wanting to help the friend and all. She may be pushed because you had plans and are breaking them. Maybe you should have delivered the message differently.

If it’s serious you’re in deep shite, if it’s not cut bait.

What is the buyer's situation that he needs occupancy in seven days?

Then when he started calling movers was like "Oh, sheet". If he can't find a mover then he can renegotiate occupancy date.

Even if he can’t get full formal services surely he can rent a truck or pod or… and get a few laborers to carry boxes at an hourly rate.

Can grab some beers and help him pack up the night before and let someone else haul the weight in the dead of summer heat

I don't understand why doing both isn't possible.

ETA: I see this has been addressed.

Pitch in for movers amd go to the party. This isn’t a shite test. It’s a serious family event.

A sister's 21st birthday is a "serious family event" like the leg lamp in A Christmas Story was a "major award." It's just going to be getting hammered at one or several bars.

On the other hand, "he can't find movers on short notice" sounds pretty bogus. There are lots of moving companies and dudes with trucks out there if this is an in-town move. Or rent a U-Haul and go find some day laborers.
