Fished late 70's, 80's, 90's to about 2009, mostly bring grandkids now for children's division to golden meadow/fourchon tarpon rodeo. Also do a lot of side the road trips cause it's relaxing and still catch fish most of time

This. Staying on my end of the island filling the freezer with white meat. Lost a freezer full of goodness due to lightning strike, time to refill the new one.

Going tomorrow morning to fourchon with 2 of grandkids to fish. Wife and I went on side the road last Thursday caught 2 specs, 35 white trout and lots of dreaded hard heads.

Have some buddies there right now. All I see on snap is them hanging out around maybe 10 people and half of them were sleeping in their rocking chairs at 8 o’clock.

Haven’t been to the tarpon in 11 years. First time I went, had some tuna cat in my face sitting in the fighting chair on some guy’s boat. Was tooted up at the time so I fit right in with all them people.

The next year I hooked my two buds up with some distant cousins of mine while I went get some strange on the other side the island. They were blowing my phone up within an hour talking about “these bible thumping bitches ain’t putting out”. I showed up like tweeter in the cop car on varsity blues. Made for an interesting fishing trip the next day. Happened upon a random shite ton of flounder.

Then the next year some dude punched my truck because I had the windows down and hank jr playing kind of loud. Hwy 1 was a parking lot at that point so me and a bud threw down with 4 of them. My big arse got picked up and thrown by a guy in a jeep that I swear was 80 years old….he told me we better get our punk asses off his island

Haven’t been back since.

Louisiana offshore oil port
It’s about 20 miles out of Fourchon. Tankers offload oil there.

Before 9/11, we used to call on 16 and get permission to go through every weekend. We knew the guy by name. Now they want to kill you just for thinking about it.

But to answer your question-I thought Tarpon was pretty vibrant and well attended this year. Filled the pavilion for the awards and had 1/2 Mile of dead stop traffic trying to get in. Definitely not the old days but I thought it was going to die a couple years ago. Seems to have bounced back some

Was the Jeep 80, or the guy? Either way, pretty impressive. Baw-l of Fame level, perhaps
