This is a refund of any unearned premium you paid. For example if you had 3 months left on the policy when they went under you will get some of that money back.

That’s one benefit out of many that our insurance regulations and laws require to protect consumers that so many here like to bitch about.

Yes, got ours this week. Still waiting for money from an open claim that I submitted additional items on that they forgot to pay out on the claim. Sent that in about a week or 2 before they entered insolvency.

I got the same thing. Does this mean I don’t have insurance now? Do I need to find another insurance provider?

If you had UPC, it means you haven’t had insurance for a few months.

Does the mortgage company replace the coverage with a functional company? I’m just trying to know if I need to find a new insurer or not

They will if you have a lapse/don’t find other coverage.

They’ll also overcharge the shite out of you for inferior coverage. Lender-provided insurance isn’t a safety net for the homeowner, it’s the mortgage company’s last resort to make sure they don’t lose their collateral.

TBH I’m surprised they haven’t hit you with lender-provided coverage yet, if you had UPC.

ETA: Then again, if you missed the UPC notices then I suppose there’s a decent chance you missed the lender-provided coverage notices too..

Yeah, surprised this is the first you’re hearing of it. Start shopping before your mortgage company forces coverage

I had heard about it but assumed I’d receive some letter in the mail notifying me if it affected my insurance. Who do y’all recommend for homeowners insurance?

The mortgage company will "force place" property coverage on the dwelling only to protect the outstanding balance on your loan. That is not to cover you or your stuff if something happens. It is the mortgage company's policy, not yours. But you will still pay for it.

Still waiting in Texas for mine. Don’t even want to talk about dealing with Florida Dept of Finance over an open claim with UPC.
