Hey funny guy, Thompson has been the best option for 3 seasons and would be the best option until somebody beats him out which hasn't happened.

I was responding to a guy that said LSU should move on from Thompson, as in if he wanted to come back tell him no and to move on.

CJJ is not going to tell a guy that has started every game for two seasons and has produced, ".260 BA, 30 doubles, two triples, 25 homers, 115 RBI and 136 runs scored and a bunch of great defensive plays" to move on if JT wanted to play another season at LSU.

Bottom line, next years team is losing a lot of experience. If JT wants to come back he is back and should be. If JT gets beat out for an infield spot then that's baseball, but JT is the game 1 best option at SS or 2nd base next year if he comes back.

They don’t really believe JT would get beat out at both SS and 2nd if he returned

He doesn’t want to pitch that’s the problem unless he gets a change of heart he’s gonna be in the infield

He was definitely a money save pick. He is going to get just enough to make him try and play over any other career paths. Usually does not take much as usually most people do not want to look back and say I was given a shot to be a professional baseball player and just said no when they look back later in life unless they have some nice gigs already lined up which is not usually the case for a kid coming out of college that has been devoted to baseball for years.

My question is how much lower does Dugas take? Just curious more than anything. Will they offer him $5K because they know he wants to play so bad. Why not just give him $500? Why not play for free? How far does the “No leverage” go?
The Nats can offer whatever they want to offer. Dugas can either sign or not. If not he has to wait until next years draft. They hold his rights. He can’t sign as a free agent and can’t go back to school.

As others have said, he will get probably the least amount they can give him, which is the entire point of everyone saying guys have no leverage, which is why it’s stupid when all of you suggest a guy should come back for their senior season. Baseball ain’t like football and basketball.

Thanks Mrs Thompson but point still stands.

a .260 BA is below avg for college and those are cumulative stats over 3 years (and includes the Cape Cod League last summer). 2023 he hit .246 and slugged .430 that’s awful. And while he made some nice defensive plays by no means was he some college Ozzie Smith like wiz. You are making a common mistake of assuming since he made a play that there fore no one else could have made the same play either that or his mom. The only defensive play that really was a difference between winning the NC and not was Morgan vs Wake. Thompson was a starter and contributed to NC and should be thanked for his service as we move on to upgrade the position particularly on offense.

Braswell was getting benched where he was. He will have to compete like everyone else

Looked the guy up. Why are people acting like this dude is a stud that is guaranteed to start? Just cause he signed with LSU he’s awesome?

Yeah I don’t get it either. Cool, Thompson was part of a title team. He’s nothing special. Not really a good hitter. Defensively, you kinda just wait for him to meltdown. It’s best for him and LSU if he moves on.

So your saying you would be happy to have Thompson back to lead the SEC in errors for the 3rd straight year? Pretty sure that would be a record so there is that!!!

Dude has been on the mound throughout the playoffs including the championship game. I know hitting is different, but it's not like he hasn't had big game reps.

He lead the SEC in total errors this season with 17. Ole miss fella was second with 15. Tommy tanks and another ole miss player tied at 3rd most with 13 each.

2 things can be true: 1. Thompson was a key to our success this past season. 2. He was statistically one of our worst hitters across the board and also not that great at fielding. He reminds me of a Johnny Manziel. He makes such spectacular plays that you forget about the easy ones he misses on. I think it’s time for a new player to get a shot at SS.

JT will likely decide to turn pro which I feel is the best decision for him.
Guidry will develop into the closer which we need and not play SS.
Our starting SS next year is currently not on our radar!
