Those hit me, and I'm not a car guy. Those are very compelling.

They also start the engine on alcohol because it won’t start on nitromethane. Nitromethane is introduced after it starts. That why it rumbles and runs fairly smooth when it starts and then starts shaking and cackling after it starts running.

I'm not even completely sure what all that means but it reads quite impressively. Got me with the pic of the tire, lol.

I did find it interesting the top fuel speed record is currently held by a woman.

Lots of women in drag racing.

It really doesn't take much talent and since they are generally lighter it helps with setting up the car as they can place weight where it gives the most benefit while meeting minimum weight.

Was a track where I grew up for years & became NHRA sanctioned. Got shut down due to the folks Yogi talks about. Supposed to reopen next year.

Worst wreck I've ever witnessed happened there. 67 Camaro, fastest car there, & one of the best known local drivers. Wind got underneath his car and lifted it over mature pine trees 100 yards away. He was known for not buckling & he was thrown out. Could see him flying over the trees. When they found him, he had no neck, head buried some, and one of his arms was buried up to his elbow.

It was amazing how high that car got.

I went to the Cajun Nationals for a few years around middle school, got introduced by a friend that was really into it. You could bring ice chest in and I remember watching coke/beer cans rattle off the chest when the cars burned out.

One year, I won tickets from WFMF with pit passes. I got to sit in Darryl Gwynn's Miller High LIfe top fuel dragster while it was in the pit. He died in a fiery crash a few weeks later at another race. It was a big deal to me at the time. Could have been me!

My favorite Top Fuel racer was Joe Amato but I can't remember why I liked him and I had to use google to remember his name.

I saw Kenny Bernsteins funny car, the Budweiser King explode right in front of me. Right at the end of his burnout, his car exploded and blew the body of the car about 50 feet in air (seemed like 100 yards to 13 year old me.) I remember thinking he had to have died but he walked away from the explosion.

The Cajun Nationals were one of the big races on the circuit at the time. Once they quit being an official NHRA event, I'm not sure I ever watched a drag race again.

I remember John Force winning so many events and him thanking Quaker State and all his other sponsors over and over with his funny accent.

Thanks for this thread, this brought back great memories.

The tire is what caught my eye as well. Then when I read the facts they listed I was even more impressed.

I remember Candies and Hughes funny cars back in the day. Very competitive. I think it was Mark Oswald as a driver.

The Force family has some beautiful women, just saying.

Back in my younger years, we were involved in the racing scene. Boats, Motorcycles and Auto. Great times.

My family is still involved with racing products.

C&H was based out of Houma, their rig was always parked on the side of the road near downtown.
Southland Dragway was only a mile or 2 from the house when we were growing up. Used to love listening to the sounds of the cars back in the day.

What about Six Pack? Wasn't Kenny Rodhers a drag racer?

Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder.

Okay, that one blows my mind. That's incredible.

Imagine hitting 8 Gs and going negative 6 Gs in a total of 4 or 5 seconds!
I live close to summit raceway Park in norwalk Ohio. Watching top fuels and funny cars is amazing. Rocks your world in the stands on every pass

Me too and I can do the math but it’s just hard to wrap my head around this from a practical standpoint.
