1997, but not by much.

I'll allow this.

I think the case for the '23 team will pick up steam as they do make a compelling case with possibly the first twp players taken in the MLB draft and three First Team AA, however I'm still a little partial to the '97 Freak Show.

In fact I think it's one college baseball's greatest teams as they are not only anecdotal as college baseball's most powerful team, but they are indeed the Champs and CBB's closest analogy to the '27 Yankees

Bottom half. Too inconsistent. Our old pitching staffs had way more depth.

2000 deserves to be up there. I believe that's the only LSU team without a post-season loss including the SEC tournament.

Every answer is subjective.. Seperated Mostly by generation. But the one thing that is unanimous among all generations is this 23 team with Skenes is the best lineup card ever written in the history of LSU.

I think it ranks at the top.
I would love to see this team with the 1997 Gorilla Ball bats.

The strength of the teams faced in Omaha and the level of play might make this the best team ever...it's just hard to top the walk off win.

College baseball is vastly different from 25-30 years ago. This team could probably get close to the HR with 97 bats. The pitching on this team is head and shoulders better down the stretch than 97

The amount of elite pitching 2023 faced is also far superior. I would bet every starting pitcher we faced makes it to the MLB.

In 1997 you had Matt Anderson from Rice as the only pitcher LSU faced that made it.

This is really tough. I think 97 makes sense but I'd probably give it to 23 team just because they had so much adversity they had to go through and win. I don't think the 97 team could win a game 1 against LSU with Skenes on the mound as dominant as they were. It's really a back and forth between 97 and 23 team. You could maybe tie them. Would be fun to see a 3 games series between them in their prime.

If you really look at this 23 team though they were special. It almost seemed like they were going to win it no matter what we just refused to see it. Plus look at all the records they did in Omaha or records they skirted. This team was actually dominating until they hit a small skid in the last few weeks of the month until postseason came. The pitching elevation in postseason was one of the best efforts I've seen. Wes Johnson truly is the most underrated reason on this team. Looking at the roster you had 2 generational players on it and then look at guys like Morgan as some underrated gem when he has been incredible 3 years at LSU.

We're not going to know how good we had it until next season pops up without Skenes/Crews. I think Crews made it to base in every single game this season which is insane.

the 91 team is being overlooked.
It had 3 major league pitchers on the staff, Ogea, Bird and Sirotka. (Rick Greene had 1 major league appearance, so I am not counting him)
Also had Lyle Mouton, Andy Sheets and Armando Rios who also made it to the show.

It happened twice before, and Lowder left tied after 7. Skenes was not invincible, but you had to be near perfect to beat him

The ace of the 1997 team wasn’t going to hold this offense down. Not sure we really had an ace that year as we had Coogan and Thompson who were both very good pitchers as the 1A and 1B.

Not that 97 wasn't a great team but those numbers took place during an era of juicing and nuclear bats.

In 10 years this team will prove to have been the most talented.

In a 3 game series maybe 1997 but under the 97 format - 1 game to win it all and this team gets Skenes on the bump then this is the greatest team ever.

Best player in LSU history - Dylan Crews, one of the greatest RBI producers ever in Tommy White, best defensive 1B ever in Tre Morgan and combine that with the vets like Dugas, Beloso and Jobert.

For one game with Paul Skenes- Best team ever snd you could make a damn strong argument that Ty Floyd and Paul Skenes give this team a strong argument to beat any team ever in a 3 game series.

1997 had different bat, balls and ballpark.

I dogged this teams offense bad the last portion of the year but this team's pitching during CWS run would make it more competitive. That 1997 team isn't beating it last week in 3 game series.

I refuse to believe 97 would have displayed more power in today's game then Florida did. Florida had better pitching objectively than that 97 team.

Few who post here remember the 91 team.

I was 6 at the time and have no memories until Walker.

1997 had BL injecting roids right into his dick head.

Let's don't discuss this with blinders on.

In terms of relative to their time? Probably 97. But I believe this team would beat 97 in a 3 game series. Also known as a “can you sweep the final 2 games after you lose to Paul Skenes” series The problem with these questions is they aren’t fair to the older squads. To suggest that 2023 doesn’t have a knowledge/preparation advantage over 1997 is to suggest that we’ve learned nothing over the last 26 years and evolved none.

This answer is the winner. Hester, stay for your prize. Everyone else go home.
