SCOTUS would deem that law unconstitutional.

Wonder if the SCOTUS can work on knocking them down next.

I'll be surprised if it makes it that far.

Michigan's state House of Representatives has passed bill HB 4474, a piece of legislation that criminalizes causing someone to feel threatened by words.

People passing laws like that threaten and scare me and I want them arrested.

Hopefully sooner than later, this issue will be before the SCOTUS. For starters, government can't dictate how tax payers can speak. This isn't about saying anything obscene but how we are to use pronouns, a basic and traditional part of our spoken language. A felony? I can get into a fist fight and only be charged with simple assault, a misdemeanor!!!
This is all hard to understand, it defies all logic and reasoning.

So now there is a law that make it illegal to say yes ma'am to some women!

DESPITE the FACT that that is a direct violation of the 1st amendment.

SCOTUS will absolutely shoot this down. The first person hit with this fine will file suit and it will be overturned immediately.

This bill allows one who is offended to take action and have government arrest someone for speaking. Ergo, it is 100% against the 1st amendment.

It protects you vs the government prosecuting you for speech, like the story in the OP.

Our resident authoritarian AggieHack will be along shortly to explain how the Bill of Rights is actually only a list of privileges granted through the benevolence of the federal government and has no bearing on the state of Michigan's ability to ban or compel speech.

What about using the wrong adjective ? I identify being captron the magnificent. Anything else is hurtful and intimidating.

Are they gonna wear a sign listing their pronouns? I mean, you cant tell who a woman is unless youre a biologist. What about all the inbetweens?

Pretty sure their targets are people who actually use the right pronouns.
