If you provide goals that are measurable, agree to reasonable timelines and hold people accountable to their results where they perform the work is meaningless.

I suspect a big pivot point on remote work has to do with introverts vs extroverts, whether the boss likes or is required to be in the office themselves and frankly the degree to which the boss has a personal “need” to see the actual work being performed in order to feel ok about their team.
