Going there this weekend to some friends camp. Wondering how the fishing is there? Is it worth it to bring my boat from BR?Or should I just stick to peir fishing? Any tips from you great fishermen?

Should be able to catch stripers in the lights still at night.

Fishing should be decent enough to make it worth the boat haul.

We do well with white rooster tails and white bandit 6’

THX.
And are you saying there's a lot of lights on the river? or just on peoples docks? Never really fished for stripers before, they like silver spoons or what?

No, I don't believe that's what he was saying...

I’ve only ever been up there once. There are a couple public spots (a boat launch and piers at the state park) that have lights, and you may be able to find some camps that have their underwater lights on.

I “know” that in the summer there has been “success” with gold rattle-traps.

In my experience, it’s a much better and more relaxing time to get some crickets and catch a mess of hand size blue gill and chinquapin from the dock. Don’t complicate it, your friends invited you to spend time together, not for you to make a serious fishing weekend out of it.

Bass fishing should be pretty decent around piers. Bream are moving up. May be able to catch some big ones, but I don't think they're stacked up or anything. You can also catch large mouth and stripers right now on the lights at night. Meaning the underwater green lights at people's piers. There's lots of them.

100% do not bring your boat. Fish off the dock early in the morning if you are wanting to fish but Bruin gets so crowded during the day the fishing is really not good.

It's not crowded at all right now. The shite will hit the fan come Memorial Day.

My dad has been catching crappie on piers near some of the more shallow water canals feeding the lake.

On minnows.

Is the catfishing any good? I’m not far from there and would love to go drop a few noodles one weekend. Or even tight line. Any ideas on the best bait?

We used to catch flat head on yoyos in summer off the deep ends of piers.

Never ran noodles out there

Ok, now this is accurate.

OP, your best bet is to probably tight line off your pier at night with cold worms or cut bait. You should be able to catch some. I have seen some baws running jugs down past the state park in the little pocket on the SE end where ski boats don't go. But I'm not sure of their success rate. I strung a trot line up there one summer and caught a few.

I’d recommend you fish for one of the wealthy MS ladies partying on daddy’s pier. There was alway a passel of them up yon in the 90’s.

catch some bluegill on crickets then cut them up on yo-yo's.
Put a few on there live and see what happens. Enjoy relaxing on the dock.
