Landowners perspective here.
I might net $100 a year leasing my land to a farmer. A solar company offers me $800 per year, with a 2% increase every year.
That’s not a very difficult decision, if you’re trying to earn a living.

Solar company does have to sign a contract guaranteeing payment. If they default I’ll own their panels and will be able to sell the power myself. In regards to the removal of the panels, solar company will have to maintain a bond sufficiently large enough to cover removal.

On top of the surface lease, I feel like you should get a royalty on the power generated from your land. Similar to O&G royalties.

That used to be a thing but they've gotten away from the PPA profit share model. My wife has a wind farm thats locked in to the old setup and it's pretty sweet. All the new deals (wind, solar, bitcoin, storage) are just straight up surface leases now.

If it’s too good to be true it probably is. How is the aluminum foil and chinesium going to generate electricity after the hurricane and nobody comes to fix them.
ETA: Ngl I realize solar is a fake pipe dream just like my dream of being a weed farmer in Louisiana

Y'all do realize, right, that these solar farms are being built specifically for a single commercial client? McDonald's is the client for the new Lightsource buildout on Hwy 167 across from Zydeco Road in Plaisance. McDonald's signs a guaranteed 30-year contract with Lightsource and Lightsource in turn signs 30-year contracts with the landowners. Amazon and other large clients are on the waiting list for other solar farms in La. Maybe y'all already knew that, but reading some of the comments it appears y'all think this is a supplement/augment for the individual resident's electric bill...which it's not.

It’s a nice add on to a roof or downtown. It’s not a viable replacement. Tax credits are what’s making it lucrative, and as others have said the cleanup isn’t fun
