Smart phones rendered them obsolete.

Yep. Smart phones rendered a lot of things obsolete (or close to it):

-ipods/mp3 players/disc walkman
-CDs
-radios
-GPS/navigators
-alarm clocks
-flashlights
-wired landlines
-roadside pay phones/phone booths
-non-smart flip-phones
-answering machines
-calculators/calculator watches
-beepers/pagers
-walkie talkies
-digital cameras/point & shoot/disposable cameras
-camcorders
-paper checks
-paper tickets
-paper maps
-document scanners
-address book

...then indirectly, because smart phones carry the internet, there's no need for physical encyclopedias, dictionaries, letter mail, paper bills, recipe books, books/bookstores, telephone books, faxes, newspapers, magazines, mall/store/grocery shopping, etc..

Tivo The original DVR device. It was amazing at the time. Record live tv and watch whenever. Even could auto skip commercials. Then cable’s companies created their own inferior devices. And Tivo died. At one time it was its own verb. “I Tivoed Survivor last night and will watch it later.”

$100 you remembered this specifically from Simon Sinek’s Ted Talk

Because that’s one of my favorite ones too.

Still very much alive and kicking in Richmond, VA. Wawa and 7/11 are supplied donuts daily by them and at least 2 free standing shops. If that "hot donuts" light is on the line is long.
