Just noticed one of our wood duck clutches has been raided. Shells on the ground and nothing in the box. Our other box still has a hen sitting. I am assuming a mammal of some sort. What can I buy locally for this? Wrap a thin sheet of metal around the tree?

You can buy a sheet of steel at Lowes/Home Depot. If the house is nailed to a tree, this is what you will need.

Just hammer nails or use screws to wrap it around the tree. And if there are any trees close that big limbs can be used to get from one tree to the other you may need to add above the house as well.

Sheet metal cone for now, but of course the tree will grow not to mention predators typically can get to the tree from another tree.

This is why they recommend putting boxes on posts not trees, much easier to protect... I'd move them for next year.
